Who's still running their OEM clutch?

Featured Replies

I don't think it would like the amount of torque you're probably running for too long though... On the other hand, it may last ages! Pot luck, and depends on how good your map is!

Does your car pop Alex? My missus seems to think it does?!

And she said it smokes like **** :D

No doesn't pop to my knowledge! It's just pretty loud!

Only smokes a bit when it comes on boost - definitely haven't nailed it through college like some of the other retards with cars there though...!! I presume the smoking when coming on boost is due to the way Ant has had to map it due to me not having a FMIC yet.

Perhaps it's because I haven't cleaned the car in literally 6 weeks....?! The car is black at the back lol! Haven't cleaned it purely because it's in pieces at the minute, and I don't see the point!!!

Tell your Mrs to wave next time, as she's seen me apparently a million times already lol!

Mine was mapped at 86k at Shark. I've just changed it at 120k 3 years later because it was slipping.

I got a new Sachs DMF, clutch pressure plate and CSC from carparts4less for £304. Fitting at my local VAG independent was £140.

If your map is decent, it should be fine replacing with another standard.

Did you use a discount code to get the clutch at the price mate?

Yes, if you create an account, add the bits to your basket but don't compete the checkout they will email you a discount code after a day or so.

Awesome thanks :) I got it down to like £315 but every little helps.

She doesn't under stand much car talk, she used to say my lights blinded her but in fact there were dangerously dull haha.

Mine smokes too, best part about it I think - can't wait to get my map wound out!

Haha I haven't cleaned mine either, been far to busy and the weather is crap.

I've told her to wave! She said she sees you every day and on a few occasions you've followed her and she has followed you lol. Look out for the silver Pug 206 with stickers - with the rude number plate 'BLO' lol!!

Mines on OEM clutch at 46k been remapped before by previous owner, which was in first year of ownership lol by Jabbasport. Get a slight rumble from the DMF.

But won't have the rumble for too much longer as my helix clutch and SMF setup are being fitted next weekend, I know it sounds daft but I'm quite excited lol.

What kind of power could a brand new oem clutch cope with? Im going to ned a new clutch very soon and not sure whether to get uprated or not, bear in mind im on a stage 1 remap and considering going to pd150 turbo.

I guess it depends if you are going for a stock 150 or a hybrid one. With the stock one you would probably get away with a stock clutch and DMF.

Considering how much labour it takes to fit a new clutch and DMF (4-5 hours I think) you would probably be best getting an uprated - you'd be pretty gutted if the stock one lasted a month !!

Its more down to how you drive that anything else. If you're smashing it 100% of the time then go uprated, if you just like a little blap now and again and don't give it death on the way to work each time then you'll be Ok with stock.

Swmbo's vRS is an 05 reg, with Jabbasport map, 40,500 miles, and still on its original clutch.

Agree with comments regarding how you drive the car.

04 125k miles. Still going.

I'm pretty sure that on the PD100 it's stock SMF? Rather than the VRS which is DMF, is this correct?
