Who's still running their OEM clutch?

Featured Replies

I wan't to know if you're still running your original clutch if your car as been mapped, and how long your car has been mapped for.

Mine is getting so bad :(

Mine is still on oem clutch on 91k now been remapped for around 5k of that, it slipped as soon as I got it mapped but it hasn't got any worse as I've learnt how to drive it. I've said to myself I won't buy a new clutch unless the car is completely undriveable

Still on standard clutch and had the car remapped nearly 12 months ago. No idea how many miles i've done in that time though but no issues so far.

Standard clutch at 126k last 15k of that has been pd150 stage 2 hybrid 208bhp 317lbs/ft with no problems but I don't give it a hard life where I shouldn't in the Rev range high up in the gears

I keep telling myself the same thing too, I know how to drive it, but it's not how I WANT to drive it.

The reason im asking is because you can get the like for like clutches for like £60.00, if that only lasted 6 months it would still be better than what I have now. But if its going to slip right out the box then of course it would be a waste of money.

Standard clutch at 89,000K been remapped about 10,000 miles and also running a stage 2 pd150 hybrid turbo

i take it no slip then :) result!

Nope, although it is slightly de-tuned but still much faster than just a remap was.

Standard Clutch lasted to 105K with a map from before 84K by the previous owner.

Replaced with another standard item, touching 118k now and not given any bother since! :)

I have standard clutch and DMF with 95 K miles.

Running 226hp and 370lbft for last 12000 miles. And stage one for 30000 miles before that.

No clutch slip what so ever, the DMF sounds 'stressed' though.

this thread gives me hope :)

i suppose a lot of it comes down to driving style

If you smash on the power under 1900rpm even at standard it'll start to take its toll on the clutch. it goes from pretty much nothing to full power and torq in one big lump before 1900rpm :D

Had mine mapped at 80k and had no trouble. Then had a PD150 hybrid and a slightly de-tuned map (like Dan). Had this for the last 8k miles and have had no issues whatsoever. I give it the beans from low revs every now and again also, in all gears....  I don't see the point in driving 'around' the clutch. When it goes it goes!

1.9TDi PD100 at 126bhp/ 220ft/lb unmapped 120.5K miles OEM clutch still fine.

91500 miles but I've not got a map...............yet!

This too gives me hope. I think I may (for now) replace it with something like for like. :)

Until I can afford a high rated clutch.

There's no such thing as a cheap clutch & flywheel setup for these cars I'm afraid!!

If you're sticking to standard then fit an OEM replacement by all means. However, if you're mapped or going down that route then I'd seriously consider forking out the extra dosh now. Otherwise you'll only have to get the whole lot done again, and will cost a lot more in the long run....

When I replace mine I'll be going the full shebang and forking out £1100 for a helix with SMF conversion.

For me, that's just way too much money to be spending on a clutch for my car, as that's more than what I paid for the whole car, just for the clutch.

Of course I know you're not saying to purchase that clutch. There are many others.

I am in the more fortunate position in regards to cost of clutches because I do not own a VRS. Instead I have a PD100 which is a 5 speed gearbox, and so the clutches and flywheels are cheaper.

For instance, the VR6 clutch and flywheel goes straight on, and costs no more than £250

There is even a seller on eBay that sells the VR6 clutch kit thats kevlar and some other compound for around £200

This is the clutch I intend to get. Im just going to have to wait a little longer to be able to afford it.

There are STD 5sp clutches on ebay (new ones) that are just £50.00

Myself and a friend would be fitting, so fitting costs don't need to be taken into account.

It lasted quite well on my 200 mile journey today. sometimes it slips not at all, other times, it slips all the time.

Also need my head gasket changed :( .... its never ending

The clutch kit you speak of on eBay isn't a techni clutch is it??

Are you referring to the VR6 clutch? or the standard one for £50.00?

This is the cheap one, to which I am referring. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEAT-IBIZA-VW-POLO-AND-SKODA-FABIA-1-9-TDI-CLUTCH-KIT-/310758274414?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item485aa2f56e

EVERYONE will say no no no no no no no no save your money, save your money, I'd rather poke myself in the eyes with a sharp stick.

But if your clutch was so so bad the car wasn't driveable, and you didn't have much money, I don't see why not.

Jesus it's not even a name lol. For the sake of another £50(!) or so I'd rather a proper sachs all day long.

Each to their own though, if you fancy a gamble, might pay off, if not it'll only mean another clutch and another afternoon laying under the car to swap them.

Mines on 114,000 and is booked in for a Shark map at AP Automotive Nov 23rd. I'm expecting it to slip to be honest.

Im not going to get it, but it did cross my mind to. If my clutch got to the point where the car couldn't be driven and I really didn't have the funds. I'd buy it, because, it must work, its not going to be faulty right out the box, not to mention the warranty also.

I don't think it would like the amount of torque you're probably running for too long though...   On the other hand, it may last ages! Pot luck, and depends on how good your map is!
