Back in the day (1970s and 80s) it wasn't that uncommon to fit GRP wings on cars with bolt-on fronts because they were any or all of lighter, cheaper, more available and rust-proof. Yes, I'd check the inner wing and bulkhead for rust, but I wouldn't assume anything malign just because the outer wing was GRP.

The wing isn't GRP - the post on FB from someone who went to look at the car said he thought it had been repaired with GRP and my link above to one of it's Ebay appearances shows a hole in the front wing......

Hi

There was definitely a repIr done there in the wing. Rapid Dave has car at moment and is giving it a bit if a mechanical overhaul. He is not too worried about the repair In the wing . Said it was nothin to worry about and just to leave it for now. Car is structurally sound. :)

"We got the fuel gauge working" How did you do it?

I've got the same problem with my Estelle 2 120L , neither fuel OR temperature gauge is working, any tips would be good.  What was wrong with yours ?

 It's certainly not the way I'd recommend to repair the inner wing, but it doesn't mean the car is unsafe or about to collapse in a heap. New inner wing panels are available to buy but it's quite a big job to fit them [properly]. Which is [i assume] why this one was patched up with glass fibre.

That's what I meant Dave. As long as you reckon it's not dangerous there's no point in opening up a can of worms. We will wait until the car IS about to collapse in a heap and we will do it then! Lol ????

I bet its the sender......I could fiddle with the earth on mine and it would work for a while then give up. New sender has solved it.

Hi Jass,  I got my gauge working, turned out both it and the temperature gauge had failed, a new set cured the problem.   I read with interest the post's about P plates as I like you had just got my 1984 Estelle which had been parked up since 1993, I had never heard of P plates nor thought of checking that area on my car.    On reading the post at 2230hrs I was so worried I had to go straight to the garage to check mine !  Luckily they were rock solid but it caused a few anxious moments I can tell you

Hahahahahaha. I had no ideas what they were either. But they still managed to keep me up for a couple of nights too! Glad yours are ok.
