Folding Wing Mirrors

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Does anyone please know if it's possible to have the mirrors fold in on a 62 plate Superb when you lock the car? I know you can do it if you hold down the lock button on the key for a couple of seconds but that's rather inconvenient and makes it easy to forget about, especially if you're in a hurry.

Thanks very much

There should be a position on the dial switch on the drivers door armrest that does it. There is on my 2010 elegance estate

Yes you could use the door mirror switch.

I think he wants to have the mirrors fold automatically upon locking without holding the button. And i believe thats Audi-territory....a module swap maybe?

I never knew you could hold the key longer and the mirrors fold!? This makes me happy. I do agree it would be good to see them open and close at the same time as locking and unlocking. :)

It just seems logical to me...

Turn the knob to the fold position to turn the folding system 'on'.

Lock the car as normal using the key - the mirrors fold.

Unlock the car as normal - the mirrors return.

Why Skoda had to do it different to all other manufacturers is beyond me.

Also consistently working would be a good thing too. I use this feature 2-3 times a week. I never touch the mirror knob, and yet every now and then locking while holding button down will do nothing. When this happens no amount of unlocking locking gets it to work.

Doesn't happen often, but still frustrating when it does! :) :)

I rarely need the function, so for me it would just be increasing the likelihood of a motor wearing out in the future. But Skoda should really make it an option activated by the MFD. All the tech is there, it just needs a extra bit of code.

There's a few threads on folding mirrors, including some suggested fixes if they stop folding in with a 2 second press. Dropping all four windows down and back up was one.

Im struggling to see how 2-3 seconds is a delay even in a hurry! Try walking off whilst holding the button down. That's what I normally do. Reckon you could make up at least 0.75 of a second back that way.

I had a MkI Superb for 5 years and folded the mirrors every time I got out of the car, just as I do with my MkII and haven't had a problem with a motor wearing out.  In fact, I believe they are more likely to seize if they're not used regularly.  I had a nearside electric window seize on a Vauxhall Calibra and I asked why not the driver's window as that's used much more often and was told the window least used is the one to seize first.

I find it handy to use as I can glance at the car and if the mirrors are folded, it's locked (I always fold them using the key).

I have always been slightly dubious regarding the benefits of folding mirrors. If the car is on the street, folded mirrors gives cars a bit more room to pass but  they might end up hitting the side of  your car having moved across an extra couple of inches to miss the oncoming vehicle. So you end up with the side of the car to respray instead of replacing a sacrificial wing mirror? In car parks creating room to walk through a gap between cars also invites damage as the twit with the shopping trolley thinks they can just squeeze through. The only time I use mine regularly is in my own garage. :hi:

That's what I mean, turning the knob to the fold position turns the function on. They only fold when you lock the car.

If you don't want them to fold move the knob out of the fold position.

But that would mean you can't fold them with the ignition on. This is a useful feature when creeping into a tight garage or past another car on a very narrow country lane.

My car doesn't work the way that silver1011 claims that his does. My mirrors fold when I lock the car and hold down the button on the fob, irrespective of the position selected on the rotary knob in the car. The rotary knob in the car folds the mirrors in when I turn it to the 'fold' position, although only below a certain speed. This seems to be the way it's meant to work, as described in the manual.

That's exactly right dippo - silver1011 was stating how he would prefer them to operate, rather than how they actually do (see his earlier post as well).

Good point, may be an extra position on the knob?

Our Touran you need to turn the dial to fold and unfold. They remain folded if set to the mirror symbol regardless of speed.

I'm keen to find the coding for vcds to do it off the ignition

Thanks for all your replies. About 12 months ago, before i had my Superb, I had a VW Touareg on loan and that was very clever in that when you locked the car it automatically folded the mirrors in for you and automatically unfolded the mirros when you unlocked it - you didn't have to remember to turn dials or hold down buttons on key fobs - it just did it. With the Superb, yes setting the dial will fold the mirrors in but they'll stay folded in until you change the dial setting again - hardly ideal. Now if the mirrors on the Superb would operate like those on a Touareg then that would be quite something!

Despite the minor inconvenience of the mirrors, I do have to say though that overall my Superb is ...  well   .... superb!!   It's by far the best car I've ever owned.

When I open the car and switch the ignition on the door mirrors automatically move to there correct postion.

I wish mine did!

Mine does this if I leave the knob on the left mirror position (for mirror dip when reversing) and fold them using the keyfob. Get in, start engine and out they fold.

It is a shame they don't auto fold as the function is there but VAG chose not to enable it. Gits!
