Skoda Yeti rear bumper foil with warning triangle - Useless!

Featured Replies

I just bought a "Skoda Yeti rear bumper foil with warning triangle".

Basically so that the dog doesn't claw scratch the paintwork when it jumps into the boot.

It is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

"Can be stored under the boot carpet when not in use" - No! it can not.

The folds are such that it just doesn't do that.

Fixing is by two self tapping screws.... and if it is positioned as suggested, it covers those two little rubber "umbrella" clips just inside the lip of the boot... and won't seat down flat.

It is as slippery as hell.... and the dog just isn't going to get any purchase on it to get into the car.

Forgeddabout it!

Money wasted.

I'll use an old bit of blanket instead.

I considered getting one of those but I'll get a protective strip from superskoda instead after I've saved my pennies. I've already got a big scratch on my bumper from my son dragging the pushchair out the car.

Ermm - it's a warning triangle, that what it is and does.

It's not intended as a dog damage limitation device :wonder:  I've got one, hopefully I never have to use in action. In the meantime it sits quietly under the carpet not making a noise.

I haven't got my Yeti - still waiting! I have however just ordered a Boot Buddy with a non slip mat ( so dogs don't slide about ) and a rollout strong rubber bumper protector.  A bit pricey, but with two retrievers jumping in and out, a worthwhile investment!

so there I am raring to go .......!!

Yeti has unpainted bumpers and our dog has been happily jumping in and out of ours for two years now with no fancy approach blanket, bumper still looks tip top with no scratches.

It is a car and it is to be used so use it, if you really want to keep the rear bumper as new, let the dog in via a side door and tip a seat forward, much lower for the dog.

However, we do have a boot protector in the Fabia as this has a painted rear bumper and is not robust.

I have a guard and tailgate set up in my current car- you can't let them in the side doors with this. I do prefer to keep wet smelly dogs in my boot so am replicating it for my Yeti :)  I looked at the warning triangle one and I don't think it would work with dogs as it isn't designed for the purpose.

I have the strong non-slip rubber mat inside the boot for the dogs.... but where did you get the rubber roll out bumper protector from?

Thanks

Rod

Ordered it from Boot Buddy with the liner and mat- being lazy really as would probably been cheaper to source the rubber mat and bumper protector elsewhere- but here is the link.

Dog in boot, no dog guard, or bumper blanket, Winston is a Black Labrador so not a little dog.

Looking from the front to the back, Winston asleep resting his head on a folded middle seat, parcel shelf stays in place when he is in the boot.

That looks like a good arrangement for Winston :)

Just so you can see what we do with the Fabia, a fold out thing that lines the boot, we got it from the Range, it is by Pet Gear and works well.

I agree about the bumper foil. I bought mine thinking it would give protection to the rear bumper but it is really only a fold out warning triangle.

As for the rear bumper not being painted and is only plain plastic so doesn't need protecting, our Springer has successfully put several good scratches in it so far! They can be partly sorted by bumper cleaner, but not completely.

Basically it is what it is, and for casual use it is worth the few quid it cost. It is not designed for regular dog use.

It will fold flat out of the way either under or over the spare wheel cover as required.
