Remap ... JBS vs Shark ... Fabia Vrs pd130

Featured Replies

Hello I know this question has prObably been asked many times before .... But I am not 100% sure where to go for a stage one remap

On here shark has a really good name , I have phones jbs at chesterfield who I have taken cars to in the past and can't fault there work ..... Has anyone had their pd130 mapped by them ?

The price and power is about the same .... Who do I take it to and why ?

You take it to whom you trust the most.

Power 'claims' are largely irrelevant, how it drives is key. Either, well any tuner should be able to nudge you to reference cars or experiences.

I've not had a 130 so I can't tell you my views, but based on my experience, my trust lies with a trip to Mansfield as I did for my 170 or Irlam(awesome with Jim(Apr)) as I've done for my petrol 1.8t after it had been to Chesterfield...

I trusted all of the companies I used previously (Jabba, Revo, Celtic, Superchips....) but in terms of the actually software quality i.e. how the car drives.... id not go elsewhere now having tried Shark Performance for the last two maps. :)

Shark get my vote for remapping.

Another for shark

I never used Shark directly due to distance so I used Brotek who is a Shark agent, never again. Will probably use Ecotune or Darkside next time.

Swmbo's has got a Jabbasport remap. Which is excellent.

I know how much each map actually costs Shark, so I'm wondering where the expertise comes in (its very, very, very cheap to them) but that probably holds fast with most 'tuners'. Plus once the initial development cost is out of the way, each unit is cheap in comparison to the initial cost. If that makes sense?

Had a Tunit box on swmbo's previous vRS, and that was a great piece of kit too, did exactly as it says on the box (sorry for the pun!)

The banter around the chesterfield area is that JBS, owned by James Bradley Silverstone, is not up to scratch, profits for his business go to fund his VAG racing career, in which he is an also-ran.

Just rumour of course, I have no personal knowledge of them....

So profits he makes he spends on what he wants? Oh no!

I had a Custom Code map on a PD130 many, many years ago. Nothing wrong with it at all. Ran 14.73 down the 1/4 so couldn't be that bad. Never had a Shark map, but again sure the map isn't bad.

If I had a bog standard PD130 who would map it? The cheapest well known tuner with a rolling road is my answer. Not so they can tune it on the RR but just so I can get a nice graph to show off at the pub.

CC Tuning cant be that far from you, they can map PD130's all day long and would maybe, maybe be a bit cheaper than both you quote.

I currently run a Jabbasport remap on my Ibiza and wouldn't take my Ibiza for mapping any where else now.

Whilst the Fabia is running mapping from TRD (not that one) which is what it came with. Healthy power band, maybe a little smokey for my liking with only 200hp but it isn't bad really.

Not criticising you, in fact as a comparison you are right up there with the best.

Likewise, I know how much overheads are, the cost of a 'map' as an individual component is minimal, and that goes for nearly every tuning business that I've ever spoken with. In fact, lets face it, some places (no names, no,pack drill) are using customers money to pay for nice glass fronted expensive premises, rather than a premises like yours which is what I would want to see if I was spending my money ie, modern, clean, no potted palms etc etc..

Compare yourself with the company I named, and you will agre there is no comparison, wild horses wouldn't drag me there .

Strangely, the cost of running a business doesn't cross some customers minds; ask Notts Police how much they have to shell out every month for a new premises they can no longer afford to use, but still pay £tens of thousands every month....

I've no criticism of you, or your product, in fact just the opposite from people I know who have used you.

That wasn't how your original post came over, I have to say

Fair enough, thanks for your reply. It's always easy to take the written word more than one way and I'll hold my hand up and apologise, as I didn't read it that way at all. Cheers

Speak to people on forums that have used multiple different remappers - its only then that you'll get an idea of how they compare both in terms of software quality and/or pre sales and after care quality. Any map feels good (or can be written to 'feel' good - feeling quick deosnt always translate into actually being quick on the road in real life scenarios!) but spending tens of thousands of miles with one compared to another is revealing ie how the mpg differs, how the drivetrain copes over time... ie is the clutch slipping on a car with 20,000 miles on it like it did when I was running REVO software and at the end of the day, what is the company like to deal with AFTER they have had your money. Shark are head and shoulders above the rest in many of these respects. :)

R tech done mine, couldn't fault them at all. Niki knows his stuff and great customer service/after care.

+1 RTech

Never had to got back but he was a great bloke and can't fault the map although I never remapped a car so can't compare it to another

im running a stage 1 shark map through the sts unit im extremely happy with how smooth it is in comparison to the standard map

i also had my golf anni mapped at r-tech and they too are very good! i have used many tuners over the past 9yrs but out of all of them these 2 ive mentioned were by far the best

Had mine mapped by jabba was told what gains to expect and were bang on the money tested on another rolling road very smooth and powerful went make to then for my hybrid turbo map

Have shark got a rolling road ?

Indeed they do.

Another here for Shark, really enjoying the remap on mine. Nice and smooth power delivery, will use them again on my next car if the urge for a remap is needed

I'm in Mansfield , that'd be great (: thank you

No worries fella, mines running stage 1 shark remap, pd160 intake and 312mm S3 brakes which certainly make all the difference after the remap. The guys at Shark really are top notch both in in knowledge and customer service/satisfaction.
