Shark remap

Featured Replies

Anyone had stage 1 remap with no other engine mods? Will the standard clutch put up with 170bhp is what I want to know?

Cheers

IMHO Yes standard clutch will be fine at 170bhp. Shark maps are nice and smooth too, so no nasty clutch wrecking torque spikes :giggle:

I will be getting one soon. I only have a performance panel filter and a 160 intake.

Also on standard clutch.

If you have the 160 pipe arnt you better having a custom map? I could be wrong but if you have mods like the pipe, and filter you would benefit more from a map? If your leaving it standard then go for a stage 1 but I'd get the 160 pipe and get a custom. I did that and got 179 bhp

My son had his done at just over 70,000 on standard clutch, made 165 of their rollers. Runs fine and smooth. No issues since

I had mine done to a completely standard car back in June at shark and cant fault the map or the guys there. Done at 73k and smooth as silk through entire rev range, since added pd160 intake and still running great on a standard clutch, no slipping even on full beans and had it on rollers at 166bhp and 398nm torque.

Ben's a great guy and extremely knowledgable.

I've got one on a standard clutch and it is fine.

Not a shark remap but no other mods 180bhp 297ft standard clutch running fine no slip

It's torque that kills clutches not power.

Shark'll limit it to under 300lb/ft and it'll survive no problem.

Jabba did mine in the same way and it made/makes 177bhp and 295lb/ft

Standard original clutch has now done 133k - 95k with the remap - and hasn't ever slipped

What would be the safest limitation on a clutch and SMF that has nearly done only 2k miles? I'm looking at running around 210bhp ish, I'd want a bit more than 300lb/ft, would 340lb/ft be okay if driven sensibly do you reckon?

I had 340 lb/ft of torque in my old fabia but I had an up graded clutch. Biggest problem was new tyres every 12 month

Just like me and also planning to get one, have spoken to them and the map they produce gives a few ib/ft of torque under the manufacturer's recommended rating for the standard clutch :) winning

I've got a shark map on mine's, ~170bhp according to the previous owner who had it mapped and it's otherwise standard. I give it pain everywhere I go, launch it hard, rev it up to just under 5k and it pulls like a train with no clutch slip, has never let me down and is nice and smooth with power from 2k to over 4.5k. I'm going to add a few performance parts, maybe a hybrid and if I go that far I'm going to have Shark map it again so that it is just under the magic 300 figure

300bhp will need a lot more than a hybrid mate!

Just wondering what is the maximum amount of torque you can get from a stage 1 map?

Mine was mapped to 177/299 on a standard clutch but slipped straight away, it's now got a sach organic with dmf, could it be mapped for more torque?

Dan, I meant the torque figure being round the 300 mark and power at approx 200-205bhp.

I get you now mate. Aim higher with the torque figure :)

200ish bhp is what mine is running, unsure in torque. I've a pd150 hybrid turbo.

From what I've been told any more than 300 "torques" and the gearbox/clutch struggle. I've also been told it's advisable to move to a 5-speed gearbox. If that's true I'd rather keep the 6-speed and limit the torque artificially.

Don't know where you have heard that from mate. Plenty of members including myself are running over 300 torque and my gear box is fine :)

Can't remember where I read that, somewhere on here though.

Maybe I read it wrong or have the wrong figure in my head though

Your partially right. 300lbs is generally considered to be the max torque a stock clutch will take. However with all cars, some can manage more, others less. All depends on how it's driven and looked after.

In regards to moving to a 5sp box, never heard that personally.

Just re-read your post, the itch will struggle yes. Gearbox will be fine. Although I Al running my hybrid turbo with a standard clutch for now and it's fine :)

Mine is running 365nm on standard clutch according to shark rr.

Edit: that's on standard car with standard map.

That's roughly 270lbs.

That's roughly 270lbs.

Yea, I thought it was quite a good figure for a standard clutch really.
