New Monte Carlo Tech Black - What Tweaks?

Featured Replies

So, ordered one and hopefully will be with us in a couple of weeks. First Skoda for us!

We tend to swap and change our cars every couple of years, so don't spend too much on mods, but I like to do a few minor things to improve the overall look of the car.

I was thinking of some Heko wind deflectors and replacing the bulbs interior and exterior with some nice LEDs. I might also debadge the rear.

Any other ideas?

Can anyone give me a list of replacement bulbs to go for?

Main lights you should get the dealer to check there not set to the lowest setting, common for the factory to do this; need to be set nearer the upper limit. Also fit H7 Osram Night Breaker + bulbs or Philips extreme equivalent, as the factory standard Osrams are a bit lacking in candle power.

Some lowering springs wont break the bank and you can put it back to standard in 2 years time and sell them on

Aside from that, Bulb upgrades all round

Nothing else needed

Thanks. Forgot about that, will email the dealer about the height of the lights.

Also, there are some tweaks to ask the dealer to sort, such as anti hijack on the central locking. Any other things I should ask them to do?

I know lowering would look better, but don't want to go that far, for now at least!

Is anyone able to give me a list of which bulbs to replace, and with what?

Paint rear brake drums black or very dark grey and debadge rear tailgate.

Be extra cautious when lowering the car....DONT get just springs its wrong save up and go for a complete strut spring combo...

Anti hijack corner lights ande needle sweeping dash is all activated through vag-com

Auto unlock on key removal

Single press unlock

Alarm chirp on lock/unlock

Right. Put together a bit of a list (long, but keep with me!)....

First, I am going to ask the dealer during PDI to make some VCDS tweaks....

Maxidot large digital speed display set to MPH not KMPH, with outside temp where KMPH is
Anti hijack auto lock
Unlock when ignition key removed
Single press unlock of all doors
Needle sweep
Tear drop washer wipe on front and rear
Coming home lights on (if possible)
Lane change indicator to 5 blinks

Any problems with those?

I am also going to ask them if they will debadge the tailgate and not to put any nasty dealer stickers anywhere! Finally, ask them to set the headlights higher.

As for lights, after loads of reading, heres some options.....any advice.....have I missed any lights?

Number plates

DRL

Headlights
Osram Night Breaker Plus about £11
or
Osram Night Breaker unlimited about £18

Side Lights

Main Interior Light

Map Lights and Glovebox

Thanks everyone.

I bought those 39mm number plate lights and they didn't fit.

I'd love some of your VCDS tweeks but there's no dealer in Shetland. There is an independent garage though with the Ross tech kit. Any idea how to do those configurations?

Stuart

Stuartt I had mine done by a member of the forum for £10 there is a vcds map but I can't remember where.

Thanks everyone.

Start at the beginning.......

The dealer won't do the large speedo and temp as it means setting the cars 'country' to Australia.

There is no reason why they cant do the needle sweep so ask nicely.

Corner lights didn't work on my car nor did ch and lh lights.

Did you not fancy the alarm chirp? My neighbours love it! ;)

I have the 2x5W CREE bulbs and they work a treat. The LED/SMD units look ok lot but when they are off they are very Halfords looking behind the lens.

Headlights, go for what you can justify cost wise but I have heard the + bulbs are good.....no personal experience as I have HID B)

Side lights, I like the look of the first CREE ones but I'm a fan of CREE over any other. I did have a set of the other set you have linked too which worked fine but were not as good IMO

Main festoon bulb I'd go for the 8SMD setup, the bulb itself doesn't seem to be linked to the CANBUS system as one of mine is out and no warning but when you disconnect the unit (I was stealing a power feed for my new foot well lights) the error warning came on.

Map lights....be careful that they are stubby ones as I bought some and they where too long and the housing wouldn't go back on. Also, the slim ones you linked to seem to show the chip on the side, not sure how that would disperse the light?

I have the 3 SMD (SWMBO wouldn't let me shell out on CREE) number plate bulbs and they work well with a good subtle clean output.

I also changed my fogs for CREE they work as advertised but I'm not impressed as they are defo style over substance/safety so I'm looking at different alternatives.

Phew, long reply!

Should I go with the 36mm ones then?

first of all, thanks very much for the reply.

So, you reckon http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281120420538 for the DRL?

I just noticed the CREE ones don't say they are error free. So maybe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-ERROR-FREE-W5W-T10-501-LED-SIDE-LIGHT-BULB-1-SMD-Backup-Cree-LED-Xenon-White-/171152265814?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27d9785256 ?

These ones? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-42mm-8-SMD-5050-LED-Car-Interior-Exterior-Dome-Festoon-Bulb-Light-12V-White-/161008042192?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257cd3c0d0

see your point on the first ones, but is think someone, somewhere recommended them. And the second ones I linked to maybe too big. Any suggestions?

so you think http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-36mm-5w-CREE-CANBUS-no-ERROR-FREE-VW-C5W-272-number-plate-golf-mk5-mk4-passat-/281129906496?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4174a5f140 ? If you were going CREE which ones would you have had? Maybe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-36mm-5w-CREE-CANBUS-no-ERROR-FREE-VW-C5W-272-number-plate-golf-mk5-mk4-passat-/281129906496?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4174a5f140

The DRL's are probably the best I've used and I've stuck with them on 2 different vehicles with no problems. So I would recommend the ones you have linked to.

Side light bulbs you have put in your second post, error free ones look good, they will look decent when off too.

The 8SMD ones you have linked look similar to mine, I bought from www.carmodshop.co.uk they also do complete units for the number plate bulbs and holders. Their after sales is second to none...James is excellent.

I like the look of these maplights http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=370920380498 plus you get one free.....for the glove box!

I also bought my number plate bulbs from www.carmodshop.co.uk and I don't regret not going for CREE.

Just to help you part with some more cash.....make sure you change your indicator bulbs from amber ones to the silvertech ones that just flash amber but are invisible when off!
