Octavia 1.8 or 2.0 which is more reliable?

Featured Replies

Morning, I'm looking to buy a octavia vrs estate, which engine is the more reliable one? I know the 2.0 is quicker etc. thank you

The vrs only comes with a 2lt engine

The Mark One Vrs was a 1.8T

Then there is much more to discuss than engine reliability when talking about 2 completely different cars. Maybe the OP can make it clearer if this is the case?

Also, if we are being pedantic, he should let us know where he is buying the car from as in India the Laura vrs comes with only the 1.8lt engine

I was not being pedantic, you clearly stated the Octavia Vrs Estate only comes with a 20L engine,( post no 2 ) when in fact it doesn't

Fair enough, it was a tongue in cheek reply, was not trying to start an argument. Let's wait for the OP to reply and explain a bit more clearly what he is asking before getting in more detail into the engine reliability discussion (failing tensioners and so forth).

Sorry there was a bit of argy bargy going on. At present I have a focus diesel estate(115bhp) and before this which I killed in the floods we had in West Sussex was a Zafira Gsi, so I'm not new to petrol power. I'll have between £3k upto £3.5k to spend. I've seen many estates 1.8&2.0 litre versions all with between 100k&120k on the clicks for this sort of money etc. so it was basically which is the best buy for reliability do you guys/girls reckon?

I don't think there is much in it if they have been looked after.

The bigger question is do you want the Octavia 1 or 2 as they are very different.

Go and look at both and see which you prefer.

For 3.5k you will get an excellent MK1 or a high mileage MK2. No contest MK1 all the way !

The 1.8t is a tried and tested, strong engine which usually remaps well. I ran a mark 4 golf with a 1.8t upto 170k and the engine and gearbox were still going strong when I sold the car (which was still on the original clutch and exhaust).

thanks everyone who has replied, the mk1 it is then. Thank you :)

Another thing to consider is the mk2 might well be safer if its a family car.
