Once you get a properly fast car youl soon learn that theres no point in racing stupid corsas...as much fun as it is... When i had my gt4 i used to just make eye contanct and shake my head wjile laughing at the stupid ****s in corsas that thought they would be able to beat it( i did melt the front bumper of a daewoo matiz that was sitting right up my arse at triffic lights revving its nackers off but thats another stpry)

On the plus side bravo for not making a thread about oil consumption or headlights

Actually quite a prophetic thread this.

Now I know if you buy a bright green hatch then you can only complain so much but I did in fact have a yoof in a Y reg poo brown/orange Saxo VTR rev at me at the lights on my way home from work, I was blatantly in a right hand filter pointed straight at the local Asda but he had a point to prove and as soon as those lights change he lit up his tyres his halfords exhaust booming.........................and was promptly beaten to the upcoming merge by an elderly Lady in a Kia Rio had to slam on and sit there as noone let him in. I got to observe all of this waiting for the right hand filter light to come on.

Good job I wasn't going straight on or I would have engaged KERS and smoked him down

If at a standstill, then the next lights of junctions might often be in a 30, 40 or 50 mph limit or up to the national speed limit and 60 MPH.

Not that many standstills then boot it up to 70 mph.

 

0-62 mph times really have little relevance IMO, if you boot it then you are pretty much going to be going over 60 mph and then braking or decelerating sharpish,

or keeping on going. 

the 0-90 is pretty quick, if you are not spinning wheels and being blown off by something with better grip than you.

 

Last night i did a drag between lights on a dark damp road i was unfimiliar with, Merc ML 4x4 on the inside of me, had been tailgating then was into a bus lane at the lights for an undertake.

My Diff was banging, clattering & jumping  like a good thing trying for traction, the TC yellow light was going crazy, the power cut as i got traction

& i was no where and the lady in the Merc was through the next lights before i was halfway there.

The guys behind me in the Escort van must have been decking themselves.

Is it just me that doesnt do traffic light gran prix's then? I laugh at what i like to call w@nkers trying it on, irrelevant of what im driving.  I just let them go.

Racing on the road is just plain stupid it's one thing putting yourself at risk, but the general public is not on.  Unfortunately there's a lot of very sad people out there who see everything as a competition, regardless of whether or not anyone else is playing along or not.

I love it when you get some pillock in a quickish car, set off like a bat out of hell at the side of you... but you know the light sequence of the next set, so calmy trundle up to them. As you reach the lights they change, and you carry on gently past them.

I have no interest in it either.........but I fancy that blue rinse octogenarian in her Kia Rio would have you on track Sy.  She had a mean look in her eye.

I tend to save it for the track too.

I think some people are confusing a little squirt away from the lights with out-and-out drag racing on the street. I don't mind saying I will sometimes show someone who needs showing who is boss, but it generally involves about 80% throttle for 2-3 seconds, and the "contest" is over. Including the poseur in the C63 AMG who thought he could get away with 50% effort and roared past as I eased up, flashing him a grin.
