The Fabia vRS...a future classic?

Featured Replies

In a word no........not for me anyway.

MK1 Golf, Mk2 Golf, Corrado, DC2 Integra, EE9 Civic (my personal favourite by a long shot), certain Imprezas, certain Evos, Sunny GTi R will all become or are classics. Current cars that may become classics V6 Clio, some Clio 182/172, possibly EP3 Type R, MK1 Focus RS.

All depends on the condition of the cars etc. as numbers whittle down. Don't really see many current VAGs being "classics" if I'm being honest, but you will always get niche groups who will want certain models of car in the future.

Strange topic, that crops up in various forums across the web.

The long bearded, real ale swillers will argue all day long that an Austin Maxi is a classic, due to its lack of survivors and being innovative (hmmmmn).

So, does that make a Chrysler Alpine a classic (it did win European Car of The Year award iirc)? Not in my eyes.

Being a classic can be not only down to its scarcity (or not), but how desirable it is (do you really want an Austin 18/22 wedge...?).

Value doesn't always mean its a classic in my eyes, for instance I wouldn't thank you for a Citroen DS decapotable as I think they're a hideous abhorration, yet they are fetching ridiculous sums.

Why is an Audi ur sport Quattro worth between £25-£50k more than a Metro 6R4?

I guess a barometer is what cars we remember as kids, or in a particular 'golden period' in our lives (I was 'lucky' enough to be 18 when the XR2, 205GTi etc came out and I bought them), or even cars we aspire to.

Without going too exotic, my list would include a Mk1 Mini Copper S, a 1971 reg Range Rover, a Series 1 'E' type Jaguar, a Lotus Cortina.

Gone a bit off-topic there, but I guess I would add that unless you had a delivery miles vRS, then the answer is no, it won't be a future classic, it doesn't have that 'Je be c'est quois'

It'll become a cult car with a small following.. but not a full blown classic. It'll be like those little 3 pot turbo Charades... loved and cherished by the few.. un known by most.

Exactly, it's like I love an EE9 Civic, most people probably don't even know what one is.
