The Fabia vRS...a future classic?

What people think?? The residuals have always seemed very good on them and now they've stopped making the mk2, they may start to get rarer. They also seemed to be one of the first 'hot' diesel hatches.

There were other "warm" diesels around before the Fabia (306 turboD?) and you can still buy a MK2 vRS Fabia. They do have a certain charm to them but time will tell if they will become a real classic.

I'm not too fussed about it becoming a classic, just so long as i can continue buying parts and keep her running as long as possible.

I don't think so. They don't have the heratige of other stuff. And its diesel. The Mk2 might be considered better, but it'll never be like like golf GTIs or hot (or warm) Fords

Any car becomes a classic car after 50 years just because of its age. Will it become a classic in 20-30 years like a mk1 and 2 golf then no. A true classic i like an e type jag etc as it was a true sports car back then and british built and engineered, so a basic hatch back with a pretty basic diesel engine then no it will never become a true classic.

Classic as in old? Yes

Classic as in stored away for the winter and maybe taken out in the summer for a clean a polish and maybe if the conditions are exactly perfect? No.

As said above the 306 D-Turbo did the same thing 15 years ago and I don't think those are being hermetically sealed away in storage to appreciate in value.

In 1993, what was a reasonable practical hatchback of 7 to 8 years vintage?  So you're looking at a mid 80s car.  I can't think of any "classics" of that sort really, apart from the ones which perhaps mainly rotted away, so the ones looked after are deemed classics by rarity?  Alfas?   I am not sure and no expert in mid 80s "normal cars"

This thread makes me want to buy a low milage VRS SE and lock it away... :(

with the lowering values and availabilty to 'NED's' who just want something cheap to rag around the estates, I'd hedge a bet that a good, unmolested totally standard, as it left Mlada one could quite possibly become a classic. The best colours to go for would be Race Blue or Sprint Yellow.

I personally being realistic would say, probably not a classic in quite the same sense as the mk1 golf (GTI only), but maybe not a lot off if people want to feel about it that way.

 

Maybe not the same way as embraced by the entire public (which I don't care about personally). Its what the individuals feel about the cars that matter

The car already exhibits a lot of attention, that may diminish in time as others drift to other cars, but like many models (Opel etc) it will always have someone that cherish and enjoy them. Isn't that all that matters ?

Why not just sell up instead of ranting about the car if you hate it that much lol - just being realistic no point.

The truth is a lot of people enjoy what the car does, it doesn't blow me away but its far from bland too.

classics do depend on rarity often though.

 

I just had a flick through the fabia mk1s on "how many left" - they are not disappearing very fast - Probably a wee bit better made than many mid 80s cars?  In 20 years, it would be interesting to see how many are left.

Compare this to my porsche 924 which is a fair shed, but there were not many on the road - less than 700!  So rarity makes it a classic.

I don't sell it because nobody is going to give me the amount of money that it owes me so I'll run it until it dies. Also, my main reason for keeping the thing is that my girlfriend drives it everyday and she likes it. I do, however, like it on a long journey, it's comfortable and economical, it serves its purpose, when it's not broken. I also don't need to replace it with anything at the moment because I have a company Transit van for work and my weekend toy Rover 214 never fails to satisfy my craving for vehicle related excitement.

 

It's my car and I'll rant about it if I want to :p

I think its 50/50, i see too many really young chavs with one these days but on a good point i see too many young chavs with one these days.

Im sure the number of fabia vrs been broken for scrap has gone up alot in last few months makes them rarer.

At the end of the day its a personal thing i love mine and cant even think of a new car i would have in exchange for it, as everythings gone eco and running small petrol turbos or just small petrols.

I have driven a brand new vauxhall corsa 1.2 and it had the same engine they have been using for last 10 years except now the body weighs twice as much imagine the performance it barely hit 70.

I have also driven new seat ibiza, ok decent performance for a 1.2 but when you put your hand in the little cubby hole and can feel the wiring loom it makes you wonder about the quality and care gone into making it.

So until I can afford a jaguar xf or nissan gtr i will stick with the fabia.

They have not stopped making the Mk2 vRS, or stopped taking orders on them. (unless they do today.)

Over 2200 registered on the road in the UK, and people have orders waiting for delivery of new hatches or estates.

If anyone wanted a 180ps or 185 ps Twincharger with dsg there are thousands in the UK from 2009 -2013, Ibizas, Fabias, Polos and A1's

 

So no word yet when there will be an end of Production or if any Run Out models before production ends.

They just announced there would be no Fabia mk3 vRS.

No word on the end of production of the Newest Ibiza Cupra, Polo GTI or A1..

I can only imagine then that the Fab II vRS being offered on some kind of cracking deal by Skoda in the near future then....?

Pretty cracking deal now, you will pick up a new one and get a 5 year Warranty for around £14,500-£15,500.

They cost less to buy now than in 2010.

 

Was a new mk1 vRS around £12,000 10 years ago.?
