Hi, looking at this Ocatvia Vrs tomorrow morning, just wondered if anyone knew of the car at all ?

many thanks

:)

Is that a colour coded grill? If so then someone has been tinkering so might be a members car.

It's a Superskoda Grill, it's a modified car...... that doesn't concern me, but it's the infamous 'TSI' engine with a DSG box, which worries me a little :)

Why infamous? It's a good engine. I'd be more worried about that white grill surround / grill.

Cracking engine. Probably the most flexible engine VAG make.

200bhp (250 mapped) & 30-40mpg, depending on type of driving make it a great all rounder. :)

Plenty of torque as well, when mapped it has more than the diesel :)

The sticky at the top of this forum is why 'infamous'

Plus, high oil consumption issues across Audi with the same engine..... google -  'Audi A5 high oil consumption'  for examples ;)

Anyway, still going to see this car, so does anyone know it?

Been mapped to Stage 1 with a Shark STS apparently

It was mine! I've PM'd you back sko-with-go.

And it wasn't for me...... :(

Why not? Just in case it turns out to be not for somebody else either.

I'd be more worried that it ain't Yellow

I was devastated that it wasn't yellow..... nail on the head!

It is probably a potential bargain for someone in the right frame of mind, as I think the seller would take under 9k for it, but I wasn't!

It was filthy, so it was hard to tell the body work condition. Although under the bonnet was really clean, which was odd?

The carpets were covered in dog hair, not a biggie to sort, but not something I want to see after 3 hrs on the train.

The wheels need a refurb (which I was informed of in advance), but one was actually less than circular as it had a dint in it!

The car was pulling/drifting to the left, and did this under braking or natural deceleration with the steering wheel released. We went to a garage and checked/adjusted the tyre pressures and this helped a little but didn't cure it.

There was a loud ticking which increased with engine speed, with the car parked in neutral (park) - this may have been nothing as the car pulled cleanly and didn't seem to have any hesitation or flat spots - maybe a noisy injector, not sure??

The rear window tints were too dark for me, which didn't really hit me until I was standing in front of the car as I thought it looked good in the photo's (when clean!) - It was like Limo tint and personally I didn't like it.

It was very, very low on the Weitec's - however it rode surprisingly well even on the 19's, I would say comparable to KW V1's. I would have to have would it up a bit though.

So I'm stood there thinking,......

I'd need to re-do the rear windows as I don't like them

Raise it up a bit as I'd be grounding, and that means taking the car to bits to do the rear

have the wheels refurbished, and at least one repaired

Sort out the pulling to the left.... possibly just alignment/tracking

be concerned about the under bonnet ticking

can't be sure on the body work condition

I'd had a really bad night's sleep, was tired and a bit fed up that the seller had made no effort with the car.

The sad thing is, potentially it could be a great car, but my gut said no

It was filthy, so it was hard to tell the body work condition. The carpets were covered in dog hair, not a biggie to sort, but not something I want to see after 3 hrs on the train.

*sigh* Why do people even bother trying to sell their cars privately, when they can't even be bothered to run a cloth over it and hoover it out. Breaks the first rule of car selling. Makes you wonder what else they couldn't be bothered to do during their ownership.

Next thing he'll be on this forum asking what his car is worth and bemoaning the 'tyre kickers' who keep 'time wasting'. It's not just potential buyers who time waste when it comes to car sales.

True, but I wouldn't dismiss a car solely on those grounds. When I went to see my vrs it was squeaky clean outside, but full of dog hair inside. I later understood why the owner hadn't cleaned it when I spent 3 hrs vaacuming it and hand-picking hairs from everywhere, plus the next 2-3 months picking up the stray hair here and there. Also, having it valeted here is ridiculously expensive so that probably wasn't an option as well for the seller.

No excuse, you have a possible serious purchaser travelling by train (expense incured) to come and see you motor CLEAN IT!

You would not try to sell your house and leave it in bog state for a viewing, so no different with the car.

As someone said if they can't be bothered to clean it what else were they happy to ignore.

I must of seen a few different houses for sale than you!

How some people live is beyond me, but even worse they are quite happy to let you view it like a sh1thole aswell. So does not surprise me cars are any different.

I went once to see different make car at the dealership. It was clean from outside, but when i opened the door i even didnt want to get into it! I just wanted to turn around and go home, but spending over an hour driving to get there i thought i will take for a spin at least. But that was like bag of spanners, rattling, squeaking all sorts of the noises were coming from the engine not talking about the handling and that was 6 year old car with 60k on the clock. My first impression was its clocked car.  And what peed me most it was that the sales guy said before of its a nice looked after car! I told him to go somewhere where the sunshine isnt shining. What an idiot!

I'm embarrassed if my car isn't hoovered and dusted and someone gets in it for a run never mind if I were selling it :s the mind boggles at times honestly

Around 20 years ago I went to look at a Volvo 340 that was advertised privately. I checked under the bonnet and the exhaust on start up and everything looked fine. I was handed the keys and asked if I wanted to take the car for a test drive, so I did. There were a few dog hairs on the drivers/passenger seat and after driving for a minute or two I was wondering what this smell was. So I stopped the car and got out to check. On the back seat was a nice, fresh ****! I couldn't believe it. I very quickly took the car back and the seller had the cheek to ask me if I was still interested in the car.

As unpleasant as that was it taught me a lesson - to check the whole car, including the back seats, before embarking on a test drive so that I don't waste any more time than necessary. You might think I have made this up to make you laugh, unfortunately it did really happen! Thinking about it now, it does make me laugh, though it didn''t at the time. Thankfully I hadn't traveled too far to view the car.
