The colour choice dilemma - how big a risk is non-metallic paint? Or Jungle Green?!

Featured Replies

A dilemma.  Nice new Yeti on order, safe colour option Brilliant Silver metallic.

But...........it's a little bit boring - I think the Yeti looks best in white or red!

Red would be first choice, but I hear bad things about non-metallic paint.  Resale affected (not too much of a problem, as we're planning to keep it a while).  Also potential fading.  Plus not likely to last as well, or as well protected against the elements.  Or is all this a load of hogwash?

Jungle Green looks fine, I think, but it's impossible to be sure until the first cars arrive.  It could be awful!

And Moon White?  White looks good, and it's highly popular at the moment - trouble is, the family all hate it!

Help!!!

red with a black roof

Octavia vRS green would look nice on a Yeti I reckon.

White is of course the best colour, Proof

red is the fastest colour, see IMG 7400 by er,,,,,,,,,,James I :giggle:

Well if anything the candy white on our Fabia is standing up to the elements far better than the black magic metallic roof panel. Of recent tree sap has left a number of 'impressions' in the metallic paint I cannot remove but the white paint appears fine. Same for the Yeti too, white is holding up well.

Had problems with a previous non metallic pacific blue Fabia mind; paint on the bonnet started flaking off after 2 years but it was repaired under warranty.

Oh had both a red and obviously a white Yeti, both nice but I think the white has it by a nose.

Well, I went for red as I love red cars. This is my third. The first one was a 90's Vauxhall Cavalier -faded and boot hatch went almost pink! My Ford Focus 2006 is still the same lovely red (Carmine) no fading whatsoever. This actually gave me the confidence to have  a red Yeti - only time will tell........       I think Jungle Green looks fab.

In my experience metallic black is one of, if not the hardest paint to look after.

Historically reds were a sod to colour match which is why, i was under the impression, they had a bad "image".

I've seen several older red cars that under "street lights" look to have panels that are differing shades of orange.

I'm not sure if that is true for modern paint but i have to say i'm very wary of "flat red" as a colour even if it is no longer true.

My current Yeti is pacific blue and it's stood up quite well.

I don't think i'd choose a dark colour again if i was getting another Yeti, so i'd not go for the green.

If it makes you feel better i'm told "navy" cars are the hardest to re-sell... Yay for me!

Found this which helps confirm red being the fastest :)

Are there any waxes that offer good UV protection?

Had the same dilemma. Eventually settled on Regency Green (also known as Malacite Green) with Gobi Sand interior but only after seeing it "in the flesh" on a dealer's demonstrator - didn't like it in the brochure or on the configurator but it's on my drive now and I've no regrets. (Actually, now I feel guilty - it looks like it is in camouflage so perhaps a wash is overdue?).

I think Jungle Green could be the same, either stunning or "Oh dear, what have I done". You could be a trend setter and take the risk but otherwise of red or white, I'd go with the red. I think Skoda have got the shade spot on and it would have been my second choice.

RED is high maintenance, UV filters are available I guess.   Buy a white one and you don't need to worry, just clean it with a bucket and sponge simple.  BUT, white is subject to tar spots and lots of them.

After some thought I went with Candy White and tbh, not regretting it at all (especially looking at the white yeti in The Plumber photo's )  I too had thought about Jungle Green but the house vote was 1 for (me) and 3 against.  White was the overall choice of the house plus it gave me a bit extra for a few bits to add on  ;)

No dilemma. Your Skoda dealer now has large (9" square) swatches of all the new colours. Glad I stuck with Jungle Green metallic, as it looks amazing in the light - if anything, it appears to have a slight very light silver/grey appearance from some angles.

Have a look at the swatches then decide.

My concerns exactly!  Could be stunning, but could equally well be awful.

Hmm, the swatches are certainly better than nothing. But seeing Moon white or whatever it's called (moonglow is it?) on the swatch certainly put me off as a rather grubby looking white. Then I realised that the relatively small swatch inside a showroom really isn't a very good colour guide. OK you can take the swatch outside, but maybe it's a miserable dull day! Think I'll wait until I can see one in the flesh.

Interesting statement, can you expand on it?  I only wash my Yeti every couple of months and it still comes up looking, well...black, and slightly sparkly.  Does black paint deteriorate in some way that other colours don't?  I know some people say that black shows dirt of any kind worse than any other colour (though I doubt black wheels would show the brake dust anything like as badly as my alloys do!)

Shark Blue

When I was considering which  non metallic colour to go for Red Blue or White, I posed the question to the Forum, and by far the biggest vote was for the White , Blue apparently scratches easily and Red was a bit too much like a Royal Mail vehicle , I did go for the White and would not swop it for any other colour metallic or non matalic , it kinda suits it.

Some years ago I had a white Ford. A rear end shunt meant a respray of the tailgate. Although the garage got a very good match they had to use a non-Ford paint because although it wasn't apparent to the eye apparently the white had changed shade due to sunlight and to respray in the "right" colour would have left the tailgate brighter than the rest of the car. May not be a problem with modern paints - I try to be involved in fewer accidents as I've got older.

will black look good? this what I have ordered cause I am afraid of that army green which I like a lot...

No-one has mentioned that the Jungle Green looks as though it would merge inconspicuously into the scenery in the half light of dusk. Having said that I usually go for something that doesn't "stand out" too much as neither the Mrs. or I want to attract attention....usually dark grey, or, in this case, Muscovado....which lots of people comment favourably on.

Black would be my very last choice due to the swirls and dust that seem to plague it.  White never looks clean in my book.  Red is a bit too popular for my liking. The Mrs hates blue.  I do like the current crop of browny /greyish / dark salmon metallics (that Nissan and Honda do for example).

but don't you think "standing out" is better to be safer in traffic?

Because of the black plastic covers maybe it's better to have lighter color for a contrast effect.

both my yetis have been black, just use lots of water to wash it no marks on the first one after 18 months, or the current one at nearly 3 years.
