Octy Elegance versus Octy VRS

Featured Replies

You used to be able to get the exceptionally sweet 1,8 TSi with DSG & Sports Suspension and a few other tweaks and it was a real peach of an engine & a pleasure to drive, you could sling it into a corner and it would go around it like it was on rails. A superb car.

I only hope now that my vRS will live up to my expectations, although saying that if the test drive was anything to go by, then I am sure it will.

I have found that the two weeks driving my rs has been very enjoyable. I came from having had two yetis previously and noticed a much better and smoother ride ( and a lot faster!)

last week I put the winter wheels on the car and I have noticed that it has become noisier in the cabin but the first week I would say it was quieter than the yetis.

This surprised me I ordered a 1.4TSI Elegance Estate.

1.4 TSI DSG petrol estate 0 to 62 time of 8.6, manual 8.5 seconds. The saloon DSG 0 to 62 is 8.5, manual 8.4.

2.0 VRS DSG Diesel estate 0 to 62 is 8.3 seconds, manual 8.2. The VRS Diesel DSG saloon 0 to 62 is 8.2 seconds, manual 8.1.

Without the sports suspension would I really notice the speed difference. For me I would be tempted to get the 1.4 petrol Elegance add sports suspension.

In the real world I wonder how much more economical would the diesel be against the little petrol - then again the petrol VRS really shifts.

According to brochure:

150ps and 1255kg, so 8.37kg/ps

184ps and 1395kg, so 7.58kg/ps

So power to weight ratio of vRS is approximately 10% better.

So ....

Elegance is approx 120PS per 1000KG

VRS is approx 132PS per 1000KG

Skoda Veyron  500+PS per 1000KG     - I heard I'm getting a free upgrade to apologize for the delays of my Elegance.....

McLaren P1    656PS  per 1000KG - (647BHP) 194g/km CO2  .....  I can dream...

vRS.  No-brainer.

In terms of the noise, I have the Canton system fitted - whilst it claims to have active vehicle noise cancelling could this be the true reason for the differences in opinion Re: Tyre Roar?

My overall biggest criticisim of the mk3 VRS's I had was also, funnily enough, the tyre roar which came into the cabin. Considering so much was made of the two different suspension setups and the fact that the independent rear setup was superior in terms of noise transmission, I was really surprised.

I must admit from my test drive I was surprised by the level of tyre noise, particularly from the rear. However, it might just be down to the fact that the rest of the car is quieter than the Mk2. Getting back into mine, I didn't notice the tyre noise in the same way (and the tyres are down to about 3mm) but other noises from the mirrors & pillars, etc. made it a slightly nosier car overall.

Ok folks panic over just  ordered an Octavia Vrs Diesel Estate due to arrive in the New Year.

White with Anthracite 18" Geminis and red stiching with variable boot floor.

May I say I ordered through Mervyn Stewart Skoda Belfast. Excellent help and a great Dealership.

Great choice! Just picked up mine and it was worth the wait.

Not so sure about the colour choice but the car is good, what options did you take?

Good choice of car and colour. Congrats!

John, What size winter tyres have you put on it, I have some 225 40 R18 which are M&S and I was going to change just the tyres. I was wondering if it would be worth getting smaller wheels and tyres for the winter.

Another difference from the elegance is that the VRS is the only mk3 Octavia with the variable rack steering isn't it?

yes and a 345mm front brake setup. :)

Good luck, now the long wait begins.
