Not just you, it looks gay, as do stretched tyres.

  • Sorry but i would love to see all this criticism to be said in person. I very much doubt you would be saying this directly to burks face saying about his spelling and gramma and calling him a chav. I

Even my exposed lips are still mint too. . :-)

Isnt this now a m.o.t failure??

I'm still wondering what HellaFlush means...

I'm still wondering what HellaFlush means...

It's an Americanism, and according to an article I read once, even the guy who coined it isn't entirely sure.

A car still has to be safe and legal whatever you do. Any mod that compromises either one of those or negatively affects performance is something I'd never even consider. Bet all these stanced cars handle like they are on rails...  :wonder:

Best car I've ever driven handling wise was my MX5 which was less than an inch off the floor and 9.5J wheels running 195/45 tyres (Avon ZV5's) used to frequently out-handle my Friends Evo 8 on roundabouts and sharp bends.

But at the end of the day its the owners choice what he/she does with their car, Nobodys forcing it on you, You look at it out of choice.

(Not a dig at you MartynVRS just a personal rant)

Can I just point out that any comments on out handling other cars does depend quite a bit on the driver.

I do notice the question about what his insurers thought of it was completely ignored.

I noticed this too!

I run 225 section tires on a 9.5 wide rim which is within the guidelines of tire manufactures so can't see how insurance would have anything to say about it,granted there are some extreme cases of stretch but I'm legal as are many others, not all stretch is excessive regardless of some people's opinions.

I appreciate Falken may say thats ok (and only for Falken Tyres) but it could be considered a mod. I am genuinely interested in what the insurance companies views are on it?

Personally I prefer it when the wheel and tyre just fill the rim (like this random photo from Google)

I had a friend in the Dub scene (Mk2 GTI Shell, VR6 engine, minus interior, lowered like above, steel wheels) and he hated stretched tyres. His (not so bright) brother had done it with a cheap pair of Linglong specials and lost control of the car when it went down a pothole at night. Shagged tyre, suspension arm, rim and pair of trousers!

It just doesn't look safe for long term driving. There is a difference between drifters (on a track for several laps) and doing 1000's of miles like that.

That's the good thing about the internet; everyone has a different opinion :D

Atleast its a different topic from the legality of HIDS!

Well I can't see why an insurance company would care, they asked about my wheels and they are aware they are 3 piece split rims intended for a porsche and that I have adaptors to allow them to fit my car, they are staggered and they never asked about sizes of tire but insured me fine and if there was ever an issue with an accident then they would check with the manufacturer of the tire and ask the maximum width rim is compatible with said tire and go from there.

I appreciate that document is for falken tires but it shows that stretch is deemed safe with their tires and would take the manufacturers opinion over the safety of tires than any keyboard warrior who just makes the assumption it's unsafe with no prior experience or proof.

I've ran my stretched tires for thousands of miles on all manner of different road surfaces and hit pot holes etc and they have done just fine,no blow outs,no popping off the bead,no sliding uncontrolably off the road so from my experience I've had no issues so maybe my stretch isn't an issue and maybe i drive to the road conditions,I drive on public roads that have speed restrictions, most people bleet on about how that stretched tires are no good on a track etc well that could well be correct but my car is an everyday road car,not a track car and never will be,if I wanted to go fast on a track I wouldn't of bought a fwd barge of an octavia.

Do you not just find it a bit chavvy though?

I mean Ed Hardy clothing is legal, but you'd never catch me dead in it

Yeah but wearing ed hardy is a personal preference, same as car mods. . :-/

Most chavs think stretched tires are bought already stretched. . So they have just as little idea about it all as you lot that are going on about it. . .

As stated above tire manufacturers give limits to what tires can go on what width rims. .even if there stretched on. . .

My cars insured with ALL mods declared, with an insurance company who is mod friendly. . .not thay it has ANYTHING to do with anyone on here anyway. . .

Ive had traffic cops walk around my car at meets admiring it, if they thought it was a hazard im sure they'd do something about it seen as they were still on duty. . .

As ive said many times on this forum, no one likes it unless its on spiders, eibach springs and 312mm brakes. . .how boring is that.

You argue your point pretty well and from the photo of your car, personal preferences aside it looks like you look after it, that's why I assumed it must kill you to be associated with the cut springs brigade.

yes tyre manufacturers do

It's the business of anyone that drives on a UK road that runs the risk of being hit by an uninsured driver, very happy to hear you're covered as the law says we all should be.

Dont get me started on "Stance"

Moral of the story is its ****, but then theres personal taste and all that....Im against "Stance" as it destroys the handling of the car.

I was at japfest couple of months ago and i saw a immaculate Honda integra DC5, 18" BBS wheels with something 5000 degrees of camber and it was stupidly low, i asked him how does it handle and he replies with "OH mate like its on rails!"

I then proceeded to ask him what tracks has he been to he replies "Havent been on a trackday yet, keeping it on the streets" so i asked "How do you know it handles well, because by the looks of it an oil rig could corner better than that!"

he ignored me and so i said to him "you do realise honda spent millions on that specific suspension setup over the course of about 10years, and youve ****ed with 200quid coilovers and ****ty geo setup you think is cool, you ignorant ****"

I asked on ed38 what they though to Compomotive MO1881's on my occy to give that WRC wheel look, and i got numerous replies say i should get bbs rs's and wheel that are 10" wide.... as the compo's look chavy.

What a bunch of inbred swines!

Rant over having a bad day

Compo MO1881 are fine, if painted white and on a white or white and Skoda green car. Or something else with a 1990s or later rally heritage.

BBS RS are fine too, in a sensible size, say 7.5J with 205s or 8J with 225s on a Furbie. Definitely the 8Js on an Octy.

Im running 255's on an 8.5j wheel!

The rim protection is hella awesome yo!
