TDI Engine Tuning

Recommended Posts

The fail criteria has always been present to offer an RfR (Reason for Refusal) on a vehicle for the absence of a cat under section 7.1 in the testing guide.

New EU regs will include DPFs and standard fit cats.

Most diesels will still pass the smoke opacity test with the DPF and cat removed, the aim of the EU by introducing these new rules is to force people to leave these systems in place in order to do their job i.e - lower emmisions, save the bunny rabbits etc

They dont care if it hinders performance, uses more fuel, costs vast amounts of money to repair inevitable faults etc - how will they benifit otherwise!?

I've had Cats sliced open, de-gutted, expertly re-welded & re-fitted on:-

Mk 3 Golf 1.9 TD (indirect injection, "umwelt" designation, K&N air filter, Millers oil, and fuel additive, got a FMIC fitted by Allards, turbo spooled up at lower revs, improved mpg, MOT tester v. impressed by v. low smoke reading!!

Fiesta 1.4tdci two of these de-catted, Millers oil and Ecopower plus fuel additive, one of two fitted with GreenCotton replacement air filter.

Skoda Fabia Mk 1, 1.4tdi PD de-cat-gutted, Green Cotton again, Millers again, re-mapped by RS Tuning in Leeds to 99bhp 170ft/lbs and routine 76.5mpg in summer. But very vibratory! And now replaced with...

Roomster 1.9tdi PD with VNTurbo, Green Cotton panel filter, Millers additive (not done oil change yet), giving 55--60mpg. Recent new fuel filter.

So just checking you're optimising things in the fuel, oil, air departments to ensure clean running AND longevity!

Good luck,

Richard

PS wish there was a way to check whether one's previous cars are still giving good service when you've invested in and looked after them.....maybe a "wheresmyoldcar.com"??

egr delete and de-cat, bothfine on mot, light may need mapping out after still, but if your remapping anyway insure its included in your new map.

induction kit, waste of money panal filter just fine unless your upgrading to the pd150 hybird turbo.

remap bang on must have above all else, do everything else first tho

better exhaust system with a cat is money better spent than the induction kit, intercooler another sweet option working with the map, luxury mod tho unless again upgrading the turbo
