When does the Mk1 VRS engine "run in" ?

Featured Replies

But the point still stands, higher milage usually means it's worth less. Regardless of how well it's been looked after. Only classics and sort after cars hold value when they've got moon miles. It's crap really.

if your worried about mileage/depreciation  but a land rover or a commercial vehicle they never seem to depreciate

It wasn't really the point of the thread. I'm getting rid soon anyway while it's still worth around 4k.

That's because of the aforementioned Joe Blogg's obsession over mileage, Wja's post hits the nail on the head.

The only reason people obsess about it so much is because it's an easily comparable numerical value. It's just like speeding, people dismiss cars based on high mileage just like the police put you on par with serial killers by driving marginally over the enforced 30/40/60mph because it's easy policing.

For those who know, you can pick up some really nice 3-4 year old 80k+ motorway-milers for a great price, so long as they've been loved which you'll immediately be able to tell upon looking at the car.

A customer we work for every year has a Skoda superb, private plate so I don't know how old it is but it looks brand new, inside and out. It's always clean, the paint was immaculate, wheels looked great and the leather seats had uniform shine and no signs of wear. I peered in at the odo and it's on 240k! I was amazed. He also said that for 239k of those miles it was remapped.

I swear some people treat their cars like infants. Lol.

They're the cars you want to buy!

Looking at a MK1 LCR as a replacement. Can get some bloody bargains. 4k for one with only 70k on the clock !

Run in at about the same time the turbo blows up and the flywheel rattles your teeth out!

Baahaahaahaahaahaaha (weep).... Yup.. That's "Bang" on the money.. My car was getting sweeter and sweeter up until 87k.. when the turbo bearing started screaming... Ben@Shark even comented on my cars power, suspecting a map but then finding it to be stock! (It's all in the maintanece, premium diesel and a regular italian tune up, lads)

Anyway, fitted a rebuilt turbo.. nice.. but, oh fook.. The clutch is slipping now!

These cars maybe "run in" at 80k.. but I'd never buy one on 80... 60k, or with a recipet for a turbo and clutch!

Christ, bad luck. Turbo's should never break on these even with a map on them. o_O

Think my wife may be " Run in " by now

Mine will need a re bore soon at this rate!

The turbos are known to be a bit naff on these, plus a decent map shouldnt hurt the turbo but a poor map and it'll kill it quicker than you can say "boost".

Touch wood mines been fine in the year or so it's been mapped. To be fair it's rarely redlined.
