Car Warranties

Featured Replies

Hi

My used Skoda warranty is running out soon and I am going to be looking for a replacement. Any views on companies to avoid or recommendations would be useful. I am not sure what I will be expecting to pay for this on a 2008 Elegance with an average mileage of 12k pa.

thanks

Martin

Had a Warranty Direct policy on my last car. Paid premium of £1200 over the 4 years I had the policy, but only received £240 in claims. Cancelled policy when odometer turned the 100,000 mile mark, and cover then became limited.

In my case, I would have been better putting £300 aside each year to cover contingencies - but who knows - you can get hit with a big breakdown, and then you would be glad you had it.

I have just signed up with Warrantywise, £612 for two years.

I bought the car when it was two and a half years old and it had no service history, the previous owner choosing to change the oil himself and do anything else that needed doing for which he showed me receipts. When I bought it I took it to my nearest Skoda dealer and had it fully serviced and anything else the dealer recommended.

When I went to Warrantywise for a quote I told them about the cars service history and this was accepted over the phone but when the paperwork came through they queried the service history and I had to provide proof of history, not a problem.

I have just received an email saying that they may not accept a claim on this basis, again not a problem, I am just grateful that they have been honest and upfront at all stages and I can now cancel the warranty and get a full refund.

My local dealer, at my last visit, was trying to sell me an extended warranty and told me that the cars service history was irrelevant and I would be accepted but I'm not sure.

On the 4 yr old Elegance I am picking up I get year five as part of the deal, Skoda warranty for years 6&7 will cost £695 with RAC cover

I wonder if Skoda would sell me another year on a 2008 (67k) model?

Yup - they did

Can I ask how much it cost you?

It was £399 - had to be taken out before the existing one expired. At the start had to be less that 6 years old and 72000 miles. I could have got a cheaper one elsewhere but with this it is all dealt with by Skoda dealers with Skoda parts etc.
