Hey guys,

I thought it might be interesting to see the reasons why do we actually order the new Octy :) So I decided to open a thread :)

For me, I started looking for a new car after my mileage turned 100k and as a must wanted 4x4 (as I've had struggles with my FWD mk2 in the winter and on steep slopes) and even bigger cabin and boot space (although the car is very practical we almost every time use all the boot space).

Unfortunately it turned there weren't many options. All SUV I looked have smaller boots and are more expensive, while most car brands do not have 4x4 estates...which ruled out many of the cars I liked - mondeo, mazda 6, honda cr-v, subaru forester.

So althought the Octy2 has not been perfectly reliable, it is in a very good condition after 7 years of hard service - drives and goes like new.

I specced a new Octy III state and a passat variant with the same extras and found that the passat was more than eur 5k more expensive. And the rest is history, so i'm currently waiting for the build date for my new Octavia:)

What were your reasons? Brand loyalty, value for money, looks, or something else :)

The mahoosive grin I had after test driving the vrs tdi. Have had a touran for nine years and it's been utterly brilliant but it's getting tired now and the vrs estate is one of the few cars to beat let alone match the touran boot. Looks fantastic, goes like stink, is fun to drive and is 0%finance so it worked for us.

Just got to wait for it to be built now! Patience is a virtue, I've heard.

Changing from a Mazda 3 MPS we wanted more space and more economy while still retaining some sportiness on ideally a flagship model.

The VRS TDI fits the criteria perfectly, I like the design, the mk3 came just at the right time for our 3 yearly change.

I never, ever thought I'd buy a Skoda, and certainly not a filthy oil-burner. I'm a petrol head, 27, and saved for a new car from the age of 10!! I've owned hot hatches (Corsa SXi, Twingo RS and currently an Alfa Romeo MiTo Cloverleaf). My Alfa has had some typical Alfa reliability issues, and isn't especially cheap to run. I've recently taken a job 40 miles away so I wanted something comfortable, fast and with lots of toys. I also need something reliable and less than £300 / month.

I bounced around the dealers of so-called premium brands, but a Merc, BMW, Audi etc. was costing silly money for a car which was less desirable than my Alfa. Then my local garage stuck a Octavia TSi on the forecourt, and it got me thinking. I've lurked on here for a few weeks, and the more I have read, the more suitable the Octavia vRS TDi seemed.

I have stayed true to my boy racer heritage by getting a silly colour (green) but this is the first car I've ordered which my parents aren't complaining about, with the exception of the colour! The deal was sealed on Saturday when I went for the test drive. Performance was brisk and the cabin was a nice place to be.

The vRS will make a nice M25 cruiser with more performance and spec than the standard A3 SE dullard special! Roll on March!!

I was at the end of my Mazda6 Estates' PCP and found that the replacement Mazda6 Tourer was lacking in cabin storage and monthly payments would be far more expensive than previously.

The best combo of pace, practicality, space and value for money was the Octy, so I ordered one.

Still blimmin waiting though!

Never had to wait so long for a factory order car! :-(

Running a Focus ST was killing the bank balance as it lived in the petrol station. Wasn't planning on changing as I was just putting up with it then one evening I saw the Octavia RS advert on TV, I took one look at the other half with a massive grin on my face, "NO" she said and with that one week later it was orderd.

I think the Tdi performance, economy, looks, 0% finance with the 3 years free service and £30 a year tax wins.

need to get rid of an 8 year old E60 beemer as it was heading for a large bill soon!

Wanted to get something with plenty of space, still a bit of poke but economical as well.

Had at look around but nothing floated by boat in April/May time and decided to wait it out till new vRS was out.

Test drove it and that was all that was needed.

Sorry fiisch,  I applaud your decision to buy a Skoda VRS but can't let you get away with saying that a Corsa SXi or a Twingo RS are hot hatches.

They are lukewarm at best.

Corsa VXR - yes, absolutely

Twingo RS??  133Hp - very light and chuckable but compare that to other proper hot hatches (Megane RS, Clio Cup Sport, Focus RS, Audi S3 etc) and it can't be called 'hot'

Warm-ish then.... Corsa SXi is pretty hot for a 17 year old!

But not having that about the Twingo - mental car! Twingo was probably the most fun to drive, as the handling was bang on. Granted, it got a bit breathless on motorways but in a dash to 60 it'd give a lot of hot hatches a run for their money. But if you weren't hooning round a track, it was pretty useless.

I will be devastated to let my Alfa go.....

Love my opels, and have had my fair share of VWs.

I've appreciated the insignia and new shape astra sports tourer / GTC, but where over 10k more once I had options coming close to what you get in the octavia, were more expensive to run, more on tax, less fuel efficient and (OK there's the VXR) but even the bi-turbo astra was smaller yet more expensive. So looking for what I wanted (and getting a brand new fabia hire car for a week to drive to Spain and back) got me thinking...

My MV6 was 32k new and (both have had) either 186 or 210 bhp, and have been heavier than the Octavia. I like it's lines, it's tech, the fact it's warm, yet mappable and the warranty  / servicing / finance deal combined with a carwow price that all came in at 10K less than the MV6 did 10 years ago!!

For fun I'll still have my stripped out ascona c with 255bhp (c.1024kg), my mums (left to me when i was a boy and she died of cancer) yellow cavalier in Jamaica yellow (mk2 1982) - with a pontiac turbo lump in it, a chevrolet monza, and the MV6 in reserve.. but the octavia combines all of their atributes into one brand new package, which will be far more refined for trips across europe and beyond!

Wife wanted a Golf GTI but with a bigger boot. vRS estate TSi it is then.

I had an octy estate on 03 plate which was showing his age and mileage and heading for expensive work which cost more than the car. This included replacement auto box, new cat required, new bushes, electrics were starting to play up etc. I knew I needed a reliable car for the next 4+ years with what I have planned and although I looked at second hand octys I never liked the octy 2 fl looks.

I still required an estate for the two big hounds and doing high miles knew I would need a diesel esp with a good chance of my mileage increasing to maybe 700 + miles a week.

I've enjoyed having a Skoda, it's been pretty reliable, comfortable, useful and economic. I did have a look at other makes but always come back to the vag group. I find the golf estate is too small but I'm not overly keen on the passat. I like Audi but they are too expensive.

Loved the test drives on the octy 3s that I had both hatch and estate, diesel and petrol, auto and manual. But I decided to wait until the vrs was released to test drive before I placed an order. I fell in love with the vrs looks of the m3 when they were first released. Test drove it and loved it even more.

Had mine 3 weeks now and love it :) even with the money to buy an Audi I think I still prefer the vrs looks

I'm an engineer and get very hung up on features and value for money. I've often looked at A4s and A6's at similar specs and size and I absolutely understand the cabin finish is better in an Audi - but not 10+ grand better.

I feel that although Skodas are sometimes behind the pace in styling, the engineering is brilliantly solid and reliable. After 8 years of driving Octavias I've no complaints at all. Previously I'd had Fords and the quality of components is far better.

I've had a Scout for a while and love its versatility and the size is perfect - big without being unwieldy in London and very well packaged for internal space - I'd now would like some excitement. It sounds ridiculous but I had a couple of hours in a Ferrari California last year and have quite been bitten by the petrol bug and now back in the real world with a family and running costs - the TSI VRS is an affordable hoot with even more space than the MkII.

New to the Skoda brand but wanted something...

good looking, decent performance, fairly economical, space for growing family (22 months and baby due Feb), boot big enough for the golf clubs.

vRS hatch tdi fits the bill perfectly!

Brilliant silver, black pack, silver Gemini wheels

Build week 46 - this week - yay!

Hopefully delivered early December

Always loved fast cars.

Grew up with parents and family having stuff like MGs, Sierra xr4x4s etc.

A few years ago (ok a good few years ago - I was 21) I had a volvo 854 t5 but had to get rid for fuel reasons - modified it was doing 15mpg. But wanted to go back to a big car with decent power.

Replacing a mk1 fabia vrs with a tdi vrs octavia estate.

Would have loved the petrol but the diesel is "quick enough" (not interested in 0-60, overtaking and cornering is what interests me) and do too much milage to support running the petrol.

My one is a completely new requirement. We've always had the family car (currently an X-Trail) for when needed and the small fun car (last one a Renaultsport Clio) but the children are now driving, or about to start learning. So the small car would need to be cheap (and possible) to insure for a 17 year old (I bought a new Fiat Panda) which meant the big car would have to be a bit more fun, whilst still coping with long runs, packed up, to Scotland, the Alps, Cornwall, university runs, festivals etc. I don't want to run more than two cars for now. So I've ordered a tdi vRS estate, with dsg. There was not much competition to be honest, one I'd decided not to buy an Evoque for being a bit too Essex.

That, and John Haugland was one of my heroes when I was younger.

Just slightly concerned with not having 4wd for the alpine/Scotland trips - more as a bit of belt and braces than an absolute need I think.

Hi,

This is the colour I've chosen (it was between silver and black).  I'll be ordering soon so could you kindly put a

picture up when you get it please?

What colour trim did you go for?  I'm leaning towards the silver but can't decide if that would be classy but a bit boring.

The red matches the calipers.

Thanks

Dave

I nearly went for black but my current car is black as is my wife's - hard work keeping them clean! Thought the silver looked understated but sporty with the black design pack. I've gone for silver stitching as it looks classy but i think either would be acceptable with silver paint (as you suggest might look good to tie in with the red brake callipers).

Will of course post some pics when it arrives

Silver with silver stitching should be very nice indeed and looking forward to the pictures.  I just need to go and order for myself now that I'm getting some offers through from CarWow.

Cheers

Dave

My mate got a Fabia vRS and he loves it he calls it red rocket.. he's been trying to get me to buy a Skoda for years...

I have a Astra Twintop nice in the summer.. leaks in the winter... had it almost 7 years now...

For one of my jobs  i need a big boot car, but I like sporty cars..

I first looked at mk2  Octavia vRS, Then saw the new one and test drove it with 0% on PCP for 3.5 years it was a no brainer..

so I ordered a Race blue, Hatch Tdi with Sunroof, sunset  glass... If I ordered an Estate one I might had it my now...

I ordered it 2nd September still waiting for a build dated.. Dealer tells me that there only made a few so far and the main lot starts to build this month

I was wanted it for Christmas but I don't mind waiting till 1st March to have a 14 plate..

Needed a new car earlier on this year when we had our second bambino, went for a used Vectra CDTI 150 and it was the worst car I'd ever bought.

Sick of trouble with used cars so thought I'd bite the bullet and buy new. A friends brother-in-law had just bought a MK2 VRS and said it was nice. Went to my local dealership to see what they had in and the MK3 was sat there.....

The 0% PCP and free servicing was a good deal so I went for it. It was built last week and is currently sat at Emden.

We were looking at an Audi A4 saloon as a euro cruiser as an upgrade from our mk4 Golf TDi.

We were initially looking at second hand 2009 onwards, but it had to have built in sat nav and as many new gadgets as poss. The only car we could find with that would have been £22-24k.

So getting a brand new car with gadgets 0% for £26k is a no brainer.

A large boot with enough room to take the electric wheelchair, automatic box, reasonable fuel consumption , adjustable passenger seat height and a nice overall shape to the car all swayed me in the direction of the Octavia.

We currently have a Chevrolet Lacetti Estate, which whilst it has been a reliable machine, the fuel consumption has been woeful at best :(

I wanted a compact class family car with a small turbo engine so I can have power instantly when needed with full load (4 persons with luggage). I owned a Renaul Clio Symbol but I believe in some countries it is launced under Thalia name. The boot was the best in it's class and I needed one bigger. I had to choose between:

Renault Megane Sport Tourer or Break or Estate not sure hot it is called outside my country

Ford Focus Wagon (same as Megane)

Skoda Octavia Hatch no need for Combi

So after drive tests and boot measurements and even interior dimensions I chose Octavia.

I didn't like and cars on the company list (Ford's, BM 3-Series, Merc C-class), so I decided to take the allowance instead and buy my own car. The choice was out of the following 4:-

*Mazda CX-5 2.0d Sport

*Audi A4 Avant 177CR Tecnik

*Focus ST Estate

*Octavia VRS Estate

The Mazda was the wife's first choice but I soon dismissed it due to surprisingly low PCP final values making payments much higher than the others. It also looks a bit too girly for me. The Audi came a very close second. The dealer was keen to give huge discounts and PCP pricing was actually lower than the Skoda over 3 years. The Focus was only considered because I qualify for employee discount via a family member. Even so, PCP was still more expensive than the Audi/Skoda and the car was a bit too small. It's engine and handling were however the best of the bunch.

That left the Octavia VRS. I test drove both TSI & TDI versions and decided that the TSI was worth well the fuel premium. The Dealer was very friendly, offering a decent discount which dropped PCP repayments to ~£300pm with just a £2K deposit (0% finance & free servicing really helped and was probably what swung the decision). The car was more fun to drive than the Audi and had much better performance, but the Audi did feel MUCH better build and my wife loved the 7" Columbus-like standard stereo/satnav. It was very close with the Audi but the Skoda won. My wife did have to choose the colour however, or else the deal was off. She needed a "blue one".

So, for me 0% Finance and Free Serving gave the Octy the win over an Audi A4. Without it I would have opted for a common Audi.
