Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI CR Greenline II

Featured Replies

Pretty fair review, I'd say.

Agreed, it is fair.   The ride is something that I think they could improve on the Greenline. I was hoping that they might have done that on the version III but obviously not.     Despite what the article says you can get over 60mpg in the real world as some of us have found.

I have had my Greenline 3 for just two weeks having come from an Octavia vrs. This may colour my judgement of course, but I think the ride is fine. It is slightly firm. There is little or no road noise as compared to the Octavia.

As for mpg. The article claims drivers "won't get close to the Superb's posted 67 mpg.....". My 23mile journey back from the dealer left me with a meagre 71 mpg on the maxidot. Several short runs later have also been well into the 60s. I am already convinced that when summer comes and my car has loosened up, I will be able to hit near to 80mpg. ( sad but fun in it's own way ).

As for the rest of the car it is absolutely brilliant in my view. A serene cruiser of the very highest quality. The most surprising aspect for me, however, is he willingness of the 1.6 engine. It is more tractable and sprightly than I thought possible. In all, a great car. Really glad I bought it.

Been searching for some Brisky reviews on here on this particular model without success.

Currently looking at the possible purchase of a 2012 Greenline Elegance with 30k,  after years of  vRS Fabia and Octy driving.

Am I going to be grossly disappointed after all this torque is my only concern?

Don't know much about this 1.6 lump, but presume they are pretty reliable?

Looks well kitted out though, but read something about the sat navs going belly up after 4 years.

Oh, and what are these 'special low resistance tyres they fit, and do you have to replace like for like?

Was just thinking that my old spare Fabia vRS 16" rims clad with winters might fit later this year if that's allowed?

I have a Greenline SE and it is a very good car and I came from a 1.8TSi Octavia and was not too disappointed in the lower power.

Remember it is also a much bigger and heavier car and can be mapped to around 150bhp.

Up to now I have had no problems with the car in the past 19 months and I have done 73,000 miles in it.

As for the low resistance tyres they are mainly to get the emissions down and the mpg up.

I now just use normal tyres.

I don't think your Fabia wheels will fit as the Superb has 5x112 PCD.

Tar for that ^^^

Drove a 2011 170 bhp Elegance yesterday, and that was a flyer, but I'm thinking running costs here. (RFL and fuel consumption)

It was also a bit mileagey at 75k, but fsh and in exceedingly good condition (ex management company car)

Just a bit worried about it being out of manufacturer warranty too.

Dunno what to do, as this one was very reasonably priced at just over 12k, whereas the 2012 Greenline is 16k but with only 30k on the clock...also in very nice condition.

Flamin' decisions. :wall:

Going to drive the Greenline tomorrow anyway. so things ill hopefully become clearer

Hi Victor

A few monhs ago we bought a 4 year old Superb Elegance ('59 reg) with 74k and FSH for £9, so £12k sounds a bit steep to me as 2011 is now 3 years old. Never looked at the Greenline, as the Elegance spec in very new in this model and I just couldn't afford it, but would be interested in replacing my CR170 in a few years, so any info or thoughts on the Greenline 3 Elegance would be appreciated.

Good Luck

That sounds like the bargain of the century! :o

No wonder 12k sounds a bit steep to you!

Jammy sod.

Nowt i can find  like that for that sort of money.

This one yesterday was/is 'booking' at a grand more in fact. (estate btw...I need the space)

Even intergalactic mileage versions are fetching (asking) upwards of 9k at the mo.

I'll let you know the comparison tomorrow night.

edit...the one I looked at yesterday was just over 11k after haggling not 12k

Just done an updated 'sweep' of Piston heads, A/trader and flea bay.

Nowt new, but did notice some completely crazy way over valued optimistic asking prices. :D

Hi Victor,

Yes, it was a bargain and we were very happy, but we were looking for months. If you have time on your side then you WILL find the car for you. Also, estates are different and seem to attract a premium. However, here are a few (courtesy of another thread  on this forum) :-

Another place I looked were ADT auctions (if you have one near you) - but I think the wife found our one on ebay.

All the best

They do sound a bit pricey but that's the market.

When I got mine Skoda had the VAT free offer on.

So my Greenline SE twindoor retail was just under £22,000 but we paid a shade over £17,000 for it new.

2nd one looks like a lot of car for only £9k, but as much as we read and hear that big miles aren't necessarily  a bad thing IF it's been looked after and well maintained, it still niggles me.

Nagging fears in the background of imminent clutch, gearbox, turbo or DPF failure.

They didn't have a 3 in for me to drive unfortunately, so it was a 2 instead.

Not masses of difference apart from the gearbox and ratios on the mechanical side of things on the 3.

Perkier than I was expecting, once the turbo kicks in, but not a rocket ship obviously.

Little bit jiggly on the crap Liverpool roads, probably due to lower suspension, but less harsh than the Fabia.

The plus side of this of course is the very acceptable fuel consumption  ....50-55 I would be hoping for around town, and much more on a steady run, and of course, the low road tax and probably slightly lower insurance too.

Very disappointed that the front heated screen is standard on all Superb 3 Elegance models APART from the Greenline.

Very odd and a bit crazy really imo.

All in all, very very impressed.
