Auto Express - Yeti FL

Featured Replies

Apart from the looks, the lower position of the FL fog lights should make them more useful in, er, fog.

Fog lights are supposed to cut under the fog with a wide flat beam, are they not? So lower mounting should help.

My thinking as well lower better for lighting up the road and not the fog

However if the current monster had the low level fogs as in the FL, I'd have probably have replaced at least one of them by now. Current set-up is less prone to damage from road debris, wildlife strike, etc.

I always thought that it was illegal to drive with foglights on, unless visibility was less than 100mtrs.(Rule 133 Highway Code)-re Wakev,s 51 post.

Rule 236

You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

Why have we suddenly taken to quoting the Highway Code when the topic is yeti FL?

Sorry. Just replying to manxskoda's post.

Me as well sorry for going off-topic,just clarifying a post made by Wakev.

Tony

Just can't see why Wakevs suggestion that fog lights being lower down on the FL,would be better in fog brought about the Highway Code being quoted?

I think Wakev was merely pointing out, further to my comment, that low set fog lights (a la FL) will illuminate the road rather than bouncing off the fog when the fog lights are mounted high up.

One reason that one may well choose to switch the headlight main beam off and run on side lights with fog lights when in dense fog.

I can understand manxskoda introducing the Highway Code "rules" query, as the Yeti fogs (in whatever position) seem to work against them when performing some of their functions.

As I interpreted Wakevs post, it was the fact that he would be driving in darkness with headlights and fog lights on at the same time.( not when it is Foggy). This was just pointing out that according to Highway code this is illegal.

Sorry for going off-topic it will never happen again.

Tony

No need to apologise, Manx - all part of the fun!

p.s.

why all cars has to look alike???  :wonder:   if you take badges off actually you cannot tell apart most of the cars today   :(

People like to kill individuality.

I think the trend was started by Toyota. :hi:

Fred

Pedant alert.

The side lights have to be on if the head lights are on.

Do you mean parking lights Graham?

Fred

That is the only thing I use them for, Fred!

:hi: Please read my post again slowly, I would never drive with the fog's on if it's clear, I'm getting fed up with cars coming the other way having both headlights and fog's on, it's getting to be every third car now and it makes it almost impossible to see past their  lights,

Rant over.  chilling now

I'd hardly call 50 a "ludicrously low profile" ??

If 50 is LUDICROUSLY low, I wonder what word he'd use to describe the 25 profile tyres on the 21" wheels available on the current M5?

Or how about these bad boys? :)

Andrew English is a pretty poor writer though.

'make you look like an environmental squander bug'? Really?

I sense a facepalm coming on.

A 50 is not that much of a low profile at all.

On the whole, the review was quite accurate IMO though.

Wow - 15 profile!

When I was showing/racing/customising my cars back in the 80's, I thought a 45 profile was "de rigueur".
