wifi tv dongle help needed

Featured Replies

Iv just bought a hitachi smart tv but i need a dongle to connect it to the wifi but i cant work out of theres a specific one needed for hitachi tvs or iv a universal one will work

Does anyone have any ideas on the matter and can reccomend one?

it will need to be specific one that the TV has drivers for, the official one is about £100. Perhaps cheaper to connect via homeplugs and ethernet cables?.

Ahh baws :(

The tellys in an upstairs bedroom so running a cable out of the question and i begrudge paying 100quid for a dongle :(

Not too sure about Hitachi (I'm a Samsung man), but there may be a universal Bluetooth plug in for the TV (again Samsung do one*), always an option?!

Ahhh right just read it again an googled homeplugs, i had never heard of them so it didnt make sense to start with

So how do these things work then?

They basically use your ring main as a network path and the network cables are just from the router to homeplug 1 and from the TV to homeplug 2.

They're brilliant but buy the "plug through" versions. They work best if put directly in to your mains outlet. With the through plug versions you can then plug any extensions you need into the home plug.

I was in Maplins last Tuesday and they were on offer. I got mine from Amazon, 500 Mbps . We watch HD TV off the various iPlayers on the web with no problem.

Good luck.

Cheers guys, went and got these and i got it all connected i just cant get it to setup properly somehow :/

Make sure that each end is plugged directly into the mains, and not through any extension or surge protected socket. As long as the two homeplugs are paired together it should work fine.

Yeah i relised this after realising the origanl reason i cpuldnt get it to work was cause it was plugged into a spur socket then i had it working brilliantly after trying a second socket but iv had to put an extension on it to help it reach the tv an now it aint working again so iv ordered a extra long cable so it doesnt need an extenstion

Cheers for the advice though it saved me having to fork out fortunes for a dongle :D
