BMW 120d or Audi A3 TDI 140?

Featured Replies

Friend of mine phoned today for some advice.

He was at the BMW dealer and couldn't make up his mind between a 120d Sport or an A3 TDI Sportback 140. Of course I was trying to get him to go down the Audi route but he maintains the BMW seems to be faster (and coming from a Mazda RX-8 I can understand the want for that).

Anyway, an hour or two later he phones back to tell me on 1 September, the 120 will be his. Judged by the deal he (allegedly) struck, I wonder whether they're selling as well as expected?? He told me he got almost

At least it will start in the mornings, with an RX-8 its a bit hit and miss...lol.

That sounds like a very good deal for a BMW.

Personally I prefer the Audi , but then I like to drive a car where people will let me out at junctions :D

Ohhhh - Saucer of milk to table one :P

Despite the claimed figures, I dont actually think the Beemer is any quicker.

I think he should have gone for the Octy TDi 140 :D, better than both of them, but ignoring that option it would have to the Audi.

Tell him to make sure when the PDI is done on the car that the indicators work. :)

All I will say is remapped Furby 1 BMW 120d 0

But surely it's only fair if the 120 is remapped as well so it does not count (also shame on you for encouraging speeding :P )

was pure acceleration to 69 MPH on the m way slip road :)

I have driven a 120d se around rockingham, and it was a well sorted car. Obviously it was way overpriced at 21k and had no indicators, but not a bad car at all. Very punchy, and alot quieter than any other derv i have driven.

Yeah but it is the ugliest car ever! Plus it's got a to55er badge on the front of it :)

Think the Audi will have better residuals after 3 years!!!

I've driven the bmw too, me and a friend test drove it, (he thought about buying one) compaired to my vRS (whis was only a week old at the time) the beemer was slower, more noisy, and vibrated all through the drivetrain (gearleaver ect) not what you expect on a

Despite the claimed figures, I dont actually think the Beemer is any quicker.

Which is why manufacturers use a more reliable means to test performance.

the handling of the beemer however was FANTASTIC! one of the best sorted chassis I'd ever driven!

That alone would be reason enough for me to choose the Beemer. With its RWD it's way above anything VAG have to offer with regards to sheer driving enjoyment, especially a similarly priced Audi. I'd pay for a Skoda or Seat (they are good value for the handling they have to offer) but won't ever shell out for a VW or an Audi.

Remapped 120d - 1 remapped furby, or octy - 0

:D

id have a 130i tho mmmm 270bhp ;)

I think the 130i will be just shy of 260hp - but whats a few hp between Skoda owners.

I would go for a 130d as Audi's are not that sorted. I hear lots of quality issues and bad dealers aswel as poor ride and ropey handling.

With 20k to spend, RWD is a must ! And i will be supprised if an Audi A3 holds it's money better than a BMW ?
