Leaving USB adaptor in the 12v socket....

Featured Replies

Does anyone leave a USB adaptor in the 12v socket in the centre console all the time (with nothing plugged into it)? The socket seems to stay live all the time but does it switch off after a certain amount of time? Don't want to flatten the battery.

I noticed that and I just lifted the plug up slightly to break the connection.

I'm sure the manual says it stays on all the time. I'd think that a car battery should be able to power a usb for at least a few days without flattening it. Especially if the usb 'transformer' isnt connected to a device

Is it just me then, as the pull pin doesn't seen to come out of my vrs. As this would make a neater charge point

Pull pin?

I've tried, but didn't pull too hard as assumed it wasn't meant to come out and didn't want to break it

No, what the hell is the pull pin?

It's the pin you pull.

NO! Not that one, you'll go blind if you pull that one :giggle: .

Oh right, well it is meant to come out, that's why it says 12v on it..... How else would you plug something in it?....

I shall pull harder tomorrow. :)

A mate worked for Fire Brigade & had a portable magnetic blue light bar on the roof plugged into cig lighter socket. Going speedy to a job the light let go & ripped half his centre console off the car along with the socket - careful how hard you pull!!!!

I didn't want mine to stay live all the time so for £3.50 I changed it to an ignition live. I used a fuse tap. It is able to carry up to a 20amp fuse, which is what the accessory socket is rated to. I've been using it for about 5 months with no problems so far. It can be easily removed and put back to permanent live by simply pulling fuse tap out.

I've never had an octavia, but I used to leave them in all the time in various vehicles. They never caused the vehicle a problem, but I did used to find the voltage regulator in the cheaper ones always burnt out after a few months. Generally in the middle of a major city.
