Did he tell you to go & wash your mouth out for making such a request?

This is Surrey, not allowed such low brow stores you know.... :doh:This is Harrogate mate, we can just about cope with a lidl in Knaresborough

.........I do venture to Knaresborough now and then, I sneak in and sneak out     :whew:

Knaresborough is my local Lidl, and Aldi are just starting the process of getting a store in Wetherby. What a choice of screenwash I'll have :giggle:

The Lidl stuff is good though.

I love a good strong smelling screen wash, can't beat the smell of alcohol.

Shame the car puts the re-circ on when the screen is washed.

Does it really? Impressive attention to detail if that is true!

Yep, they've been doing it for years, my mkII octavia vRS did and and my fabia vRS was doing it back in 2006....

I also have a feeling they go into recirc when put in reverse to prevent sucking in exhaust fumes when going backwards.

Wifes 08 Polo definitely did it but not obvious on my Octavia FL with 2 zone.

...back on topic i do tend to buy the VAG stuff as its pretty cheap and has a ridiculously high freezing point. I tend to stick half a litre in and top up with water and it works great and hasnt frozen yet. When the car goes in for a service will probably buy several bottles to see me through for a good long while.

On my Fabia I had a fan jet block and was told it was down to using poor quality screenwash (Unipart stuff from the local BP garage, used it in a MK6 Golf for 3 years and never a problem) and had to charge me the princely sum of £3 to replace the jet!

Just buy the proper stuff, it is good stuff

I find it odd spending 20k on a car and then looking to buy the cheapest screenwash

Having recently had a right faff fixing a split corrugated washer pipe on my lads Fabia II, then the level of protection against freezing needs to be considered just as much as brand, fan jet friendly etc. He like many had been putting the stuff from Tesco and even the local petrol station in the car. Trouble is the supermarket stuff is only good for -5 and most garage forecourt offerings are not much better (best I've seen is -15).

Started ensuring he's using a strong mixture of the VAG -70, as even in the not so northerly Yorkshire Wolds I've seen -19 on the car temp gauge in the last two or three winters on the odd occasion late at night.

The "Orange" motoring shop is doing a 5L canister of ready mixed screenwash for £6,99 & it protects down to -20°C, bought some to try, but I might just pop over to dealer next week and get some of the proper stuff to try.

By that do you mean halfords? They're stuff normally only goes down to -6C so that's quite good!

I'm not normally a fan of ready mixed stuff as your just paying extra for water, and more than you'd pay for tap water...

Sweet, if the weather gets really bad I might get some.

I just buy the regular official screenwash from the dealership -it's about £3.5 per litre if you ask nicely.

Does it come in 5L canisters? If it does then it may well be worth it as a canister will fill the washer bottle.

No, it's concentrate so you have to mix it with water. Mind you if you mix it 1 to 4 litres of water it's not a bad all season mix, used neat it works down to -70C apparently, although I'm inclined to think that if it were that cold, frozen screenwash would be the least of your problems.

Haven't seen any 3 for 2 deals on screenwash at Halford for ages.

Doubt that you will either as we're approaching THAT yucky time of year.

Aldi screenwash, 5 litres £1.99   works well
