PID dead?

Featured Replies

Wifey pointed out to me at the weekend that here PID (the SatNag thingy, as she calls it) doesn't wake up any more.  It has, in the past, complained about low battery (possibly as the car doesn't get used for days at a time, and then only for short journeys) but now won't even wake up - even if manually pressing the power button after the car has been driven for 10-15 minutes.  Have checked it is still clipped in place (both the unit and the stalk) but still no joy.

Any ideas?  Was going to remove it and try charging it via the USB - does this work?  If not, then off to Skoda for a new one, I guess...

Try charging the unit for an hour via USB,remembering to charge it while the unit is switched off and then try switching it back on.If it has been charged the problem is the docking cradle or the dashboard contacts.

I had the same problem about two weeks ago. Tried to input a new destination and it wouldn't fire up, it was dead. After a around ten minutes plugged into the computer to charge it fired into life, just. I eventually took it out to the car and it took a few minutes to get some life out of it so I could input the data.

I will have to get into the habit of using it every now and then to keep it topped up.

need to remember to choose shutdown not sleep if you only do short runs, as it consumes power in standby to keep the memory alive

So when I disconnect it from the car it starts a count down to switch off, I usually press switch off now. Is that switching completely off or into sleep mode? Never given it a thought before now.

I do that, but its just putting it into standby

To completely shut it down, you need to hold the button down and do it that way

By default it did the 30 second countdown when you turned the engine off.  Sometimes it would wake straight up, and other times it seemed to do a full bot up (displays version numbers and all sorts in the corner and takes longer), so guessing at a flat battery.

Will charge it up via USB when I get home at the weekend and give it a go.

Ive had several account where my PID did not do the countdown automatically and as a result did not go into standby.

Result - flat battery when I get back to my car.

I havent been able to trace the conditions which make this happen. Ive tried leaving it in various modes (radio, media, maps), but so far it all seems random.

Well. Even after charging overnight, it is still dead. Only thing I noticed is when I plugged it into a USB charger (and I tried 3 different ones including my halo battery) the orange light on the base of the unit was flickering rapidly. Did this on all 3 methods of charging, and lo behold, still doesn't work either off the car or plugged into the car again.

Off to the dealer for a warranty replacement?

Yes,time for a new unit under warranty.

That's definately faulty. Change it at the dealer.

Thats what I thought..

Take it you have pressed the rest button on the unit? Not sure it would do anything when down powered but worth a short press with a pen or similar then try another power up.

Tried the reset button, yep.  No life at all.
