Might be a bit of drive for you though - used by quite a few on here.

EGR bypass won't give you any issues come MoT time. You'll need the mapping adjusting to map out the CEL light though, as the ECU is expecting readings from the EGR, within a certain range of tolerance. When it doesn't see any data, the light comes on. The vast majority of people tie EGR bypass into a remap. It's a win:win :)

  • If people have the time to get full independent reports to suggest that a fault on a 5yr old car was inherent and "there from the beginning" then great. I wish those people all the luck in the world.

Great - thanks.    Ill get in touch.   I assume the CEL light isn't vital for any other issues?

CEL can illuminate for other reasons, so best to get the EGR mapping sorted. So that if it does come on, you know it's something new that might need attention.

Was advised to make every 4th fuel 'Ultimate Diesel' (or equivalent) to try to keep the exhaust system cleaner. Most supermarket/cheaper diesel has approx. 7% biodiesel which VAG state should not be used in any of their engines.

All diesel sold in the EU is up to 7% biodiesel, it does not matter where it comes from. EU law dictates this, so even the "Ultimate Diesel" contains the same amount of biodiesel and other additives.

European Biofuels Directive (2003/30/EC) is the source of ruling, and in 2009 the percentage was increased from 5 to 7%, so any modern engine should have no problem dealing with it.
