Driver's Door Lock Aggravation!

Featured Replies

Some of you may already know I've been having fun unlocking my car since the driver's door lock busted when trying to unlock it... I turned the key to the right, and it just went BANG and kept going around.

Dealer removed the barrel and said they would be in touch when the new barrel arrives. I assumed this would be a local UK thing, but it turns out they're built in bloody Czechoslovakia and I'm still waiting for it six weeks later!

Many will comment I really need the exercise of walking around to the passenger side to unlock the car, and I'll retort by uttering a few expletives! :D But really, the fun has worn off now, and it's starting to pi55 me off having to unlock on that side of the car (what if that lock breaks? I'm screwed!)

Anyone else know much about how/where/when these door locks are made and ordered?

Why not demand that it isnt acceptable to wait this or any longer, and suggest that if they dont have the barrel by a set time soon then they replace all the locks so as to match. Of course, to help the arguement you could also find that the passenger door lock is "playing up " as well now. Would be my course of action.

I'll see if I can force the passenger lock to get a bit dodgy - I like that idea. I however do not like the idea of being locked out the car... :(

After all - It would probably be easier to replace the two barrels and the ignition code...? I even wouldn't mind having a temporary door key, and ignition key whilst I wait.

You dont even need to force the lock, just tell them it is jamming intermittently.

I wonder if those door barrels come in pairs...? ;)

I'll monitor it and see. The worst pain in the ar5e is parking on the r/h side of the road, facing the wrong way, and you have to step into traffic to lock the car! Not very good, and I always get those kind of "why isn't he locking the car on the other side?" looks....

Don't think I know that look...

:p

I think it's a sort of confused look - and indignation that he/she has to slightly go a bit more in the middle of the road to get around me... :D -Could also be accompanied by friendly one finger salute, but I've yet to witness that addition to the look yet.

Yes they do take that long to arrive - so do spare keys. Best bet is to go on holiday - then it might be ready when you get back :p

Been on holiday already - car was serviced during it, and the lock still hadn't shown up!

So, how much is a r/c/l upgrade then? And what happens when that packs up? Can you still fall back on the key?

Dunno - Octavias come with RCL :D - yes you can use the key though.

Yes, and I frequently do when I forget to shut the sunroof. The 'hold the key in lock position to close windows and roof' comes in very handy.

Jason, your other option is to go for an alarm with a c/l option. Probably cheaper than dealer fit rcl. Can't remember if the Fabias already come with an alarm tho?

Cheers,

Mine doesn't. IMHO I also don't really need one where I live. What would I be looking at for an alarm with r/c/l setup then? I'd be worried though that if THAT packed up and I use the key to poen the door.... the alarm will go off!?

BTW - I've been put off dealer fittings now - If I found somewhere else that did r/c/l upgrades for a Fabia - I'd probably use them...

Jason,

Try a google search for 'Microscan SCL3000 Keyless Entry System'. I found it on a site called tradingdirect.co.uk @

Just thought..

knowing Skoda they would probably claim it invaidated the warranty on the locking system and they wouldn't replace your lock

Well - I'd have to see if they could fit it for me... I've enquired to my dealer how much one would be inc. fitting, so I'll see what they say... Would that keyless entry system to all the indicator flashy bits like my Dad's Honda - Ya know.. Quick 3 or 4 flashes when open, and one long flash when locking...?

Next you'll be asking will it do the little squawk the Beemer ones do ...

Where did your system come from Steve? - You're going to say it came with the car now, aren't you...?!

and, YES, I wouldn't mind a little "beep beep" when opening / closing... what's wrong with that? It makes people's heads turn doesn't it? :D

Mine doesn't make a "beep beep" sound, but it does give me a cheeky little flash, the rascal!

And yes - it came with the car... :D

 Jason, you tart!

I suspect it wouldn't, but most alarm systems will.

So, either
