H&R 12mm spacers fitted

Featured Replies

Well..

I got my spacers yesterday...two of them, only for the rear, like was recommended here...see? I listen to you guys :D

I can tell you these two things...it handles much better now on a twist, I'm getting less understeer and it looks much better too! Like a bulldog. Like my bulldog Poochy :D ...and from the side, the rear arches look much more filled up now...not only that, but when I go over speed bumps it feels alot more comfortable in the rear...

My dealer recommended only 10mm spacers because he was worried about the rear fender in the event of a sharp corner being taken right off by the rear wheel ...I put in 12mm, went to the dealer to get it fitted, checked the spacing between the outermost point of the tyre and the most protruding inner-point on my wheel arch (which is the clip of the arch trim)...I just have a 2 mm space left before the two points meet...

I'll post some pics up in a while :)

EDIT: One more thing...I also noticed with these spacers that when stationery, flooring the gas and take off, the car 'sways' both left and right...kind of like a woman doin' a teaser a$$-shaking move while running off....I was told this would happen before I put them, and I LIKE IT! :D

Sounds good :)

hurry up with the pictures! :)

hurry up with the pictures! :)

I am I am, I'm just quite busy. Bear in mind they don't stick out of the arches. For one that's illegal, and for another I'd have a difficult time doing sharp turns if they did...so don't expect naked rubber... :D

I should have them up in a few hours..

we just expect pictures :). Comments will follow later.

Naked rubber is extreme IMO so just i little wider is enough. I'm looking for an extra 10 mm myslelf althouh my wheels have ET37.

What offset wheels do you have at the moment? I have ET35 and that's pretty close to the border, at least on polo but I think pretty much same applies to fabia (I think standard is ET43 in both cars).. The car does feel more balanced in curves thanks to wider stance and the tail is at least a bit more happy to slide if teased but also increases tramlining a bit (I believe that's why your cars a$$ is shaking since the back of the car seeking a different path compared to front on uneven surfaces). Not sure why want it wider just at the back though, might make the car unpredictable in some situations, but hey if you like it, then

Pics, pics, pics...

Wanted these for a while, how much are they mate?

Well guys...

Here are the pics. Second one, you can see a pretty silver spacer...12mm...

The last three are 'before' and 'after' pics...you can see the difference between the third pic and fourth pic...ma more bulldog stance from the fourth...

Phil, these spacers cost me about GBP50 worth here...I don't know how much they would cost you in England...

Depending where you get them,

i thought by widening the rear track would increase understeer?

Well not really 'cos it's already narrower than the front, with the spacers your just bringing it all in line!

yeah i know but if the front isnt getting made any wider, surely buy adjusting the rear track only, will slightly increase understeer

Widening the rear track increases the risk of oversteer, not understeer.

I'm confused. Yours looks like a VRS, spoilers, tailpipe and all ... but the wheels are the 15" skoda wheels. So I deduced you have the 2.0 MPI. Have you added the vRS kit? Why not vRS wheels?

In the rest it looks good .

Here's mine with the ET 37 wheels on and no spacers. I was thinking about an extra 10mm although I have the stock supension. Sorry for posting in your thread.

You're not the first person to get confused about my car. It's a 2.0 with a GT kit. The vRS came out after the kit was made..I have wheel arch trims on mine where the vRS doesn't.

I was thinking about vRS wheels...I don't know...still thinking...or maybe some after market rims...

And thank you

Your wheels look like they already have an offset. IIRC, H&R don't make 10mm spacers...12mm are available...and if you stick those on your tires will stick out alot..

Widening the rear track increases the risk of oversteer, not understeer.

learn something new every day

Out of interest is there a reason you didnt increase the front as well?

I'd kind like to increase both by 10mm

Well...

Adding spacers is not usually recommended by anyone. Wheels with a large offset are fine, but for one reason or another, some spacer users have had their wheel bearings eaten off because of the pressure wheel bearings put on the hub (and this is usually when they put cheap wheel spacers on, but you never know). This is usually the case when spacers are placed on front where they turn, further increasing the pressure, especially doing a fast corner.

I intensively checked to make sure it was okay to put rear spacers in the rear, and I went for quality. I personally think GBP50 (which is 400Dhs here which is quite a lot) is a stupid price to pay for two round pieces of metal, (they probably only cost about GBP 5 to make each)but again, it's quality. You get what you pay for. H&R. Eibach.

Like already said, I din't put any in the front because of the stuff I've heard about putting them on that axle overtime...

The rear is fine. It works fine. It LOOKS better. It handles better too! Like it's supposed to.

Great thanks, hadn't thought of the wheel bearing issue

Hmmm im interested in this myself, are the Eibach's/H&R's a much of a muchness? I guess that they are both "the best" ones to choose, how much again and what mm would people suggest, 10/12mm?

Sorry if it looks like I haven't read Mil's comments, just wanted some clarification that's all

Dont get the shaky-*** thing on mine.. damn want my money back..

Otherwise, yes its a good mod and seems to benefit cornering behaviour.

:)

Dont understand the physics of it but it seems to remove some of the understeer - i suppose similar to fitting a rear anti roll bar having the same effect..

I got 15mm Eibach spacers (plus new bolts!!) and rear look of car looks similar to yours Mil, except a suspension is not as low. ;)

I got 10mm spacers up front and 20mm on the rear :)

No problems as yet (OK its not a Fabia).

I don't think it has anything to do with it being a Fabia or not.

Like that thread once put up...an Audi had it's bearings eaten away...why? I really don't know. To be honest, I really don't understand what difference a wide-offset wheel makes compared to a spacer. All a spacer does is widen the track right? It really shouldn't be a cause for bearings to be eaten away, and if it was, I think there would have been numerous complaints against H&R and Eibach by now...
