CD changer no longer working! Cable or unit?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The genuine CD changer including with the VRS has stopped working.  For the last year, going over a bump has resulted in one channel of audio muting but it would 'fix' itself after 30 seconds or so.  Now, it doesn't work at all.  The head unit says 'Check Magazine' - there are discs in the changer.

I pulled out the HU to check the wiring, all looks OK. Two cables aren't plugged in but It doesn't look like they have anywhere to go?

So, duff multichanger?  Possibly loose cable from the CD change end?  Anyone had anything similar?

If I need to pull out the multi changer, is it seat out or do those few screws on the front release the unit?

Any advice appreciated.. Thanks :)

Those spare wires look very after market to me. Is there a wiring harness/adapter in there? From your piccies it looks like you're running a standard h/u.

I'm gonna say someone had a different set-up at some point and has reverted it to standard. Looks like some of the extra wiring is still there.

IMO the CDC is communicating its displeasure with the magazine. Most likely a changer problem than anything else.

Thanks for that info.

Possibly has had an after market in, although I don't know that.  The cables that run from the loom are all joined by connectors (same as the two visible ones in the photo)

Might have to see If i can source a 2nd hand changer... This is a bad Skoda month for me!

^ Hopefully that might help. The blue connector is dedicated to the CDC. The brown one to the speaker outputs. Though if one speaker (or door set) is playing up, it's also possibly a problem with the connectors in the kick-panel or to the speaker(s) themselves.

Also this might be useful: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/193491-cd-changer-under-passengers-seat-removed/

The original wiring would not have had any inline connectors.

Another vote for duff changer, quiet common as they get older.

Thanks all for the help with this.  I'll ignore it or replace it...
