Yes mine was an A, they were built up to end 2008 or thereabouts I believe and I agree there aren't too many users (on here at least) with them.

Did as you suggested and sticker reads as follows Part number on sticker is 3T0 035 680 HW: H11 SW: 1164

  • As kb says updated, but its not that new. Check out www.rnsfirmware.com and take the 'modified for older units' route. Adam

Ok I just enabled test mode in VCDS (didn't realise it needed hard reset after).

Delivery part no. 3T0035680A

HW ver. H11

SW ver. 1304

Map ver. 7920

Can you get the HW Radio Version?

If it is 0004 you have a Rev B unit.

Thanks again for the replies.

Just checked and Radio HW is 0004 so it's a revision B.

So I am thinking firmware 4024 modified is latest I can go to.

Not sure there is any benefit going past that anyway, if that has radio text you don't need to go any further.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

If andyvee is correct and yours is a revision 'B', then you won't need modified firmware.

Yes agreed if you are a revision B, you just need the standard firmware. 402x does not have radio text, so 412x would probably be a good option in your case.

That is what I was running on mine, and it was HW03.

Thanks again everyone. I updated to firware 3974 and everything seems to be ok (might go to 4xxx later)although I noticed I cant turn the radio on now without turning on the ignition 1 click.

Also did a scan afterwards and have a host of errors appearing with the radio etc. Would this be because of the firmware update and is there something I need to do that I have missed. Thanks again to everyone that has helped me you have all been brilliant.

Scan results 2 posts below

Edited by Hungry Horace

Clear your error codes and then rescan - doesn't appear to be any issues from what I can see other than the fact that the Columbus was upgraded.

You have the optional sound system, nice.

Can you post the results of that scan keeping the formatting intact?

  • Author

This is the second scan. I scanned it cleared them then re-scanned and this is the result. Don't know what happened to the formatting previously.

So the only fault code refers to the Load Management on the CECM. I'm not sure what this is, as haven't come across it before. All the other modules are clear.

Beat me to it!

My guess is loads of scans and a firmware upgrade have flattened the battery a bit ..........

Sorry posted before seeing the other answers. I will check the battery out. Only picked the car up yesterday and its been sat in the showroom for 6 weeks so maybe battery is a little low.

Also any idea why the initial part of the scan is showing errors?

Not at all, VCDS will have cached the errors from the first scan before you cleared them.

Go for a drive and see if any come back in the next few days, but if you can trickle charge the battery overnight it might be a good idea.

And I'm only at 6 words a minute single finger typing!!

Horace: if you clear the modules individually rather than using the clear DTCs option, I think it prevents them showing up at the first part of the scan.

But they are clear it seems.

All related to when you updated the firmware and the fact that VCDS caches them between autoscans.

Thanks for the answers. You guys are a fountain of knowledge. Will try to charge up the battery, also got a 500 mile trip on Tuesday so will scan again after that and see what it says.

No problems, hopefully a charge and a good run and all will be well after that.

And the saga continues. Firstly battery was flat this morning so I think your right and that's what's giving the errors.

This morning I went into the secret menu on the navigation and it is telling me the hard disk only has 2 partitions, I was under the impression it should have 3 once I upgraded firmware to 39xx.

Also the satnav is stuck in a location far away from me and it won't locate on my present position, is there some sort of reset I need to do. I have tried the < > and i buttons but is hasn't made a difference.

Cheers

Wonders if the Columbus is causing battery drain and also suffering from Regensburg syndrome (or simply a duff GPS antenna)?

If so, this would suggest that a modified firmware is needed and the Columbus is a revision 'A'...

Might be worth trying the CANBUS fix for older gateways at the bottom of this page or trying to reinstall the 38xx firmware as (IIRC) this was the one that many people stated needed to be used in order to correctly establish the three partitions before upgrading further (although in my experiences, this was a false assumption).

Wonders if the Columbus is causing battery drain and also suffering from Regensburg syndrome (or simply a duff GPS antenna)?

If so, this would suggest that a modified firmware is needed and the Columbus is a revision 'A'...

CAN Gateway is Rev AA though so shouldn't be suffering from battery drain.

If it is radio HW 0004 it isn't a Rev A.
