Superb Display Question

Featured Replies

Hi. Bought a Skoda Superb Estate yesterday series 2. All going well! Question - there is a small info screen between the rev/speedo counter - the speed reads in km/h - how do you change it mph?

You cant. Its the law that your car must display both.

For some reason Skoda only print MPH on the actual speedo, the digital display therefore has to be wasted by dislaying KMPH for the reasons above.

Unlike Audi who put MPH and KMPH on the speedo freeing up the display to show MPH.

It is possible to change it, however the car needs to be set-up so that it thinks it's destined for another county, Australia I think.

The Audi speedo on my A4 was so 'busy' with close set numbers as it read to 180 mph (!) that you needed the digital speedo at normal speeds-30 and 50 mph were difficult to see. I do miss the digital speed display as I had got so used to it but the Superb's speedo is a paragon of clarity compared to the Audi so it is much easier to read anyway.

I believe on the newer cars the ability to change country has been blocked, due to lots of us invalidating the UK type approval for the car.

Wrong, you do not need to display both, BUT you have to have the ability to display both (which you still have if you change it with VCDS)

VCDS is needed to change it to (a large) MPH display, it however works on some new cars and not others.

I'd leave it as it's so much easier for the European journeys ;-)

It takes less than 5 seconds to put the KPH display back up, how is that difficult?

Do it whilst you are waiting to get on or off the boat/train and you will still have loads of time to sit around board!

You've just twisted what I wrote.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion, you said:

You do not need to display BOTH.

You do however have to be ABLE to display both MPH & KPH, there is a difference.

As said it is ability to display either upon selection that is required, otherwise all those vehicles with only digital numeric speedos would be illegal.
