My experience of a Hybrid fabia and modifying thoughts

You have to remember your comparing mapped with standard

Put a k-pro on a ctr and then stick your mapped fabia against it (fair comparison there) and then see what happens

  • I may have read the stats for the wrong car but a standard 330d SE is 231bhp which is more than "most" hybrid fabias lol. Add a remap on top of that then no wonder you didnt stand a chance lol.

  • But that would go completely against my point of owning a derv. The Fabia pulls whether is at 2000rpm or 5000rpm. The civil probably doesn't even get going until your well over 5000 rpm and has pretty

  • Ill just leave this here.

couldnt agree more mate, Civic's are far superior handling wise than fabia's, even with a few mods a standard civic will handle better because that's what their made for, I'm just saying that they are not as fast as everyone thinks they are

Completely get where you're coming from, but it was the last of the truely great N/A hot hatch engines (I'm a massive N/A fan). I've been in very little with a better drive train, in comparison to cars now it's not by any stretch of the imagination the quickest but as I say it used to put a massive smile on my face.

For the money you'd spend on a Fabia to make it hybrid 220bhp, you'd probably spend the same or a little less getting a Civic to 240bhp on stock engine internals.

Is a extra 5-10bhp max peak power going to make that much difference?!

a good friends is running 240bhp tuned by Tdi north quite a few bits done to it new ecu and stuff like that not entirely sure what's been done to it, on our way down to ten of the best with my dads subaru convoy obviously having a little blast. When we arrived he said he couldn't keep up with me coming off the roundabouts,

It puts them up to 220bhp. And yes it makes a massive difference!

There was a video on youtube a standard one vs a k-pro one and the k-pro destroyed it

This topic has been discussed a million times, everytime it ends up getting locked!

A mapped fabia vrs does NOT beat even a standard civic type r ep3

Not on the straights

Not on the twisties

Not at all

Well maybe on fuel costs and black smoke

K-Pro ECU, Downpipe, B-Pipe, RBC intake manifold and an intake. Does he know how to drive it? I know people in Astra VXR's who struggle to keep up with a 240 bhp Type R in a straight line. Anyway I've had enough of this topic, good night all.

Can't wait to get a video on the strip next year against a Type R, then we'll have this debate again.

you throw a bait and you get a bite, love a good Sunday debate. Ha

As I said stage 2 in my eyes is a waste of money as the fabia can't put the power down. Just buy a car that can such as a type r (just a example, for all the haters!) That has usable power straight out the box

They just don't get it lol

Humm. Fabia vrs new was 12k ??

Civic type r new guessingwas 20 or 30 k ???

Lets just step up and go for a more expensive vag ... audi s3 would own a civic . Moral of my story its a 12k sporty hatch. Pluss you dont see as many chavy vrs' s as type r's haha

Just realised. Its a hybrid fabia topic lol

I'd be very worried about the new type R's, this all stemed from them being high powered NA cars but low torque.

The new one is circa 280BHP from a 2.0L vtec turbo and is about the break the record for fastest FWD around the ring beating the renault R26.r etc etc, it'll remap to around 310/320 i reckon.

They don't have vtec until 5000k rpm so off the line they are slugs

No maybe not but i have had a 173bhp rr proven fabia vrs and would class myself as an able driver! Also had a hybrid fabia

Had many a run in's with a standard type r!

Each time theres not much in it until 80mph, after that the type r romps away!

Anyways racing on the roads aint cool. This was a few years ago when i was stooopid

ive been reading about these it looks absolutely awesome !!

big fish tuning in stokesly, he wasn't comparing them to another turbo, he just said he wouldn't bother with them as they are very hit and miss, some make good power and some don't. I'm happy with my 150 turbo at the minute, if I was going for more power id do it properly and get a GTB2260vk, not based on the price's, just don't think hybrids are worth what people pay for them.

And you have a 150 turbo so your whole arguement is utter pish im afraid.

Obviously a mapped 150 will have more staying power than a mapped 130

But they have no torque. . The most torque that goes thru a civics wheels are when your tightening the nuts up. . Lol . .

Give them the same torque as a fabia and theyll spin the wheels up alot more.

As carole shelby once said. . .horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.

well considering I only had the 150 turbo mapped in two weeks ago it's not is it lol, when I embarrassed the guy in his type r it was still on the 130 map, and when he pulls up next to you and says 'what the **** is in that it's rapid' I'm afraid a mapped fabia is quicker than a Type R lol

Fabias are cheaper

Fabias are less tax

Fabias are better on fuel

Fabias are better on oil

Fabias quieter

Fabias have their power during normal driving revs

Fabias are European!

Civics are quicker

He obviously can't drive or was in the wrong gear!

Standard civic type r's 1/4mile terminal is 96mph! Show me a 170bhp fabia that can do that!

True speed is terminal speed!

My HYBRID fabia did a 97mph terminal

I just googled it, first company that come up offered a stage 1 package with a induction kit, showed RR graph blah blah blah made 200bhp. after a bit more reading, to get decent gains you need a manifold and other mods.

Oh and

That's true, but what mr Shelby didnt say that is that power accelerates a car not torque, which is why a car with less power but more torque isnt quicker e.g a type R vs a mapped fabia in a straight, after a while the type R will pull away. Put a hybrid fabia against a type R and its a different story same if not more power and more torque, the fabia is 20BHP more but a hybrid still only just out pulls it it does outpull it never the less.

But you still have less power under the curve and can't take advantage of gearing like a high revving NA car.

Lets not get into weight or aerodynamics because a heavier car becomes even less good at accelerating.

There's a internet phenomenon that a car with more torque will beat a car of similar weight with more power - its not quite true. You see this with remapped 335'd vs M3 (lots more torque again less power, the gearing and power hampers it), the 335d will keep up to an extent but will eventually lose. Of course you have to work the petrol car and select gear correctly.

You'll see type R's poor in low gears' low revs out of corner on a track, once they get up there, they are gone.

I'm not giving a lecture, its just physics.

we were on the motorway side by side stop saying they were in the wrong gear man there's no defending it after what he said Jesus Christ ! Lol

Sticking a hybrid badge on the back of a fabia doesn't mean it actually is a hybrid ;)

My HYBRID fabia did a 97mph terminal

Someone get the blue peter badges out. . .
