Automatic Hazard on emergency stop - Didn't know I had it!

Featured Replies

Came off the motorway tonight rather briskly, lights changed at the roundabout I was approaching.

Decided to stop rather than zoom onto a roundabout.

Braked very hard, not crazy but quite hard.

Came to a stop hazard lights had automatically come on.

Quickly turned em off before anyone noticed!

Winter tyres worked well though, no issues with grip slowing me down so quickly.

I've had to brake as hard as I could from motorway speeds (so hard the rear end was squirming around) and my hazards never came on. My only guess is that they can be coded in using vcds

might be something similar to getting the flashing brake lights when heard braking

Yep, my 2011 mkII did it too, only once when I had to brake that hard the ABS came on, mine definitly came from the factory like that.

Your brake lights flash as your braking and the Hazards come on when you've stopped, I think they might stop flashing when you drive off

I had to enable mine on the MKII via VCDS, got it to come on last week when braking rather hard and the ABS decided to kick in.

This is correct - can also code in so the high level brake light flashes, rather than just come on solid. :)

I don't fancy being behind someone when their testing it!

You would hope they would check the rearview mirror before doing anything like that else they don't deserve to be behind the wheel of such a car (or any car for that matter....)

Goldfinger has it spot-on.

The brake lights flash fast as you are hard braking, then when you come to a stop the brake lights go back to constant and the hazards turn on.

The hazards turn off when you set off again.

Seen here in this YouTube clip...

Both the flashing brake lights and activation of the hazard lights are controlled via VCDS. You can choose to have one or both of the features enabled.

On the pre-FL the vast majority of cars has this feature turned off (with the option to enable via VCDS). Then with the introduction of the FL they all came with this feature turned on.

Also available on the Fabia, Rapid, Yeti and Superb.

Indeed! But if you've just programmed it in with VCDS, how do you know it's working without popping out with a mate for a heroic crash, sorry test run!

Having seen vids of me in the Yeti on track I get the flashing brake lights quite a lot! :D

Ive never noticed mine do it, going to have to test next time Im somewhere private!
