Cable Access Through Bulkhead

Featured Replies

Having got myself a boost gauge I need some advice on the best routing for the pipe into the interior so I can mount on the dashboard. I can see a big wire loom and grommet on the driver's side under the wiper drive going through the bulkhead and the bonnet cable looks even better as possible means of gaining acess inside.

But when I look up behind the wiring block / fuse panel from the driver's footwell I cant see anything promising.

Which is the best way through for a vacuum pipe?

I had a similar problem recently routing the lead for my snooper laser/radar unit, and helpfull chappy that he is Quinten pointed me in this direction.

Isn't it possible to get a boost reading through the climate control panel, sure I saw a thread along these lines - can't find it now tho

This document describes the clima codes... someone (was it Mattijs?) was doing some translation of it as it is in German unfortunately.

Apparently the length of tubng provided with the boost guage is not long enough to allow it to run through under the pollen filter; it has to be routed through the driver's side, as that is where the gauge will be mounted.

It has been suggested to me to route it on the offside by making a small hole in the side of the large grommet for the wiring loom under the driver's side wiper shaft and pass the tubing through it.

Before I do any damage to any wiring could someone confirm this will gain me access to the tubing from the inside.

Chris

you will find it pretty hard to gain access to the tubing if threading it through the drivers side!

I know as I already looked, but there is no way it can go the long way round (nearside).

not even an extension pipe ?

You probably want to PM Jon (TaviaRS) as he's got a boost gauge fitted.

I have sucessfully found a way through the driver's side wire loom for the vacuum pipe.

BUT I can't find a way of getting the pipe through to the top of the dash hwere the gauge will be mounted. Clearly there should be a way via the door trim on the door frame perhaps via the top of the fuse box but this is a pipe that mustn't be crimped and when the fuse box cover goes back on the 3 lugs would surely crimp it.

Any ideas anyone before I drill a hole somewhere I shouldn't?

What about up the drivers side A Pillar trim - it would be fairly simple to cut a little slot for thep pipe to come out ?

From what I remember seeing in Jon and Des's car is that the wires come up from where the A pillar, windscreen and dashboard meet each other.

The A pillar route via the trim is what I was planning. It's how to get the tube out from under the dash near the top of fuse box that's not clear, as that is the shortest routing. Without drilling a hole somewhere I can't see any other way. I hope Des can remember what he did.

Is this the same for getting power through to the boot - Still wondering where the power would come through to the cabin?

Jason, you might want to read this.

Found the way through at the edge of the A pillar and door trim and now have my boost gauge working. Just need to run wires for lighting now to the light switch. Anyone know the colour of the lead from the light switch to pick-up the side light power - Des did tell me?

Chris

Cheers, Q - I thought there was a thread somewhere about this...
