Rear bump stops

Featured Replies

Have departed company from the top of the shockies apparently, and are sliding up and down freely..

Is this a major issue anyone know?

What to do now?

New shock absorbers and springs all around p'taps?

Can't complain, as my baby is nearly 9 now, and have only just changed the original battery too!

Lovely car....best ever in fact.

You can just fit new ones, it is easy, remove both bottom shocker bolts, jack car up on both side and lever the shockers out of where they get located. Then remove the upper bracket - maybe two bolts and lift the shocker out. Note, they will always want to extend but not that much as to cause you any problems, remove top nut and take top mount off etc. The new bump stops are a push fit into the protector shroud.  If you leave these bump stops as they are right now, come MOT time you will probably get an advisory or worse, unless teh rules have changed.

Mine broke within the 12 month warranty period during 2007, however they are not covered by Skoda warranty and they have never presented any MOT problems.

Mine are the same as well, not a problem at MOT time and no performance issues so I haven't bothered doing them since they're a stupid design anyway.

Yes there are a few issues with these, an amazingly bad choice of material that starts degrading as soon as it sees daylight - coupled with the equally bad idea of using the protecting shrouds, which act like a knife, to grip them on waisted points - the outcome is not surprising. I'm surprised the MOT does not take a swipe at dislodged/broken ones though, I thought anything could become "fair game" for them seeing as a branch of the civil service writes the rules. I think what made me aware that they had failed was a casual glance that had me thinking "why can I see the shiny shock absorber rod now when I didn't previously?"
