I think a belt should go there

Featured Replies

Well, on the way to work this morning this happened. What a nice Christmas present that was :(

Is removing a pd head the same as removing an other head??

Was the belt change overdue?

yep!!!! it might in some way be a blessing as i was getting head lift from the boost and loosing coolant. got home first thing i bought.............. some PD150 head bolts

i got told the belt had been 'changed' with a receipt, unfortunately no stamp in the book to prove this.

Tensioner not replaced and failed maybe?

I really need to get mine done haha this is the last thing I want to happen

Heads nearly off now. Got to get some different spline sockets as the 1/2" ones wont fit in the hole at the front. At least it's an 8v

Hope its not took the engine with it :(

ah, that's bad luck... it happens though, bad time of year for it to happen

If it helps. Just bought my new belt fron tps along with water pump. 126 all in

And 2 year garrenty on then

hope your heads ok

Not much chance of the head being intact on an interference engine like the PD130, valves will be needed for sure, and possibly a cam kit plus all the valve seats recutting, and don't forget new stretch bolts for the unit injectors.

Don't forget to have a good look at your piston tops. We had a Polo drop a valve the other week and it made a fair old mess of the piston it hit.

It is snapped belt season at work :)

I did a vw transporter about two weeks ago (was awful to work on!) stripped the teeth off the timing belt while driving on a 40mph road.

And the damage..? Nothing!

Isn't the first time either. Vw diesels seem to go down well with snapped belts.

Id just put a new belt on and try it if it was me... But I've lost any passion for my Fabia... It's just a work horse now.

Well the head is off. I don't think the cambelt failed (to start with). i think the water pump bearings went and eventually destroyed the belt. Luckily the pistons have no damage on them :)

unfortunately i couldn't find the valve remover thingy so they will have to wait for a bit but judging by the followers the valves had hit the pistons

But this might have been a blessing in disguise as the cam shims have worn to the copper

Those aren't shims, they're plain bearings and it looks like it's suffered from oil starvation at some point in it's life, let's hope your big ends don't look the same.

As I said get a complete cam kit and take the head to a reputable machine shop to get new valves fitted and the seats recut to suit, they'll lick it flat while they're at it.

Do get new stretch bolts for the injectors, re-using the old ones it's impossible to get the torque right, and boy do they give problems otherwise!
