Electrical Entertainment - 12v Sockets & Lights (Estate)

Featured Replies

Ok, just going thru car since only got it last sunday.

Front and rear 12v sockets don't work.

Add to that the window switch (that stop's the rear window's working) isn't working either, I guess they are connected in the faults.

Have checked fuses, not blown (unless the switch and rear 12v are on a different fuse).

Rear cabin lights not working either.

Ideas?

Thanks

Could be all linked,

but my window lock switch didnt work either, as it was just broken.

along with the driver window switch that had a cracked clip stopping it from making a proper contact.

just replaced the switch module with an ebay unit for a tenner, took 10 mins to change it and its perfect

(except its actually from a passat and has red leds instead of green - or its red as its came from china...)

what age is the car?

The window switch is just down to poor contacts in the switch I've done a "how to" strip the switch pack and clean it up inside not sure where it is on the forum though. Could just try a new switch pack though they're easy to swap.

My rear windows didn't work and the 1 touch up didn't work either, stripped and cleaned the inside of the pack and all working.

12v sockets could be a fuse or they're come unplugged if someone's had the trims out.

I had a feeling that the 12v sockets were controlled by the "window lock" on the drivers door control panel, l so it might be worth checking to see if that switch works (the one which prevents front & rear passengers from opening/closing their windows)

The sockets as mbames has said could well be linked. some vrs's can isolate the sockets by pressing the rear window isolator depending on year. My friends 51 estate does it, my 53 hatch does not. Plenty of vrs's being broke on here, try replacing the if you cant clean or strip it.

Should say try replacing the switch, but cant edit original post for some reason

Cigar lighters are fed through Fuse 41 (15A) according to that nice Mr H.

Try plugging something else into the socket. Sometimes the glass fuse in the plug can get broken if the plug is dropped. Easily checked by unscrewing to replace the fuse. I assume you have an Elegance model as you have two sockets.

Edit:(Addition) The rear cabin light do not come on automatically but can be switched on individually with the switch built in to each light.
