Buying an Imported Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am considering buying a new (to us) car that was first used in Cyprus before being driven to the UK, I have been offered one by a Skoda dealer at a good price but it's an import, they took the car as a px for a new Octavia.

It has been registered in the UK etc & is being sold with 1-2 years Skoda UK warrantee.

I know the insurance could be slightly more but the question is are they different in any other way?

Do they have the same under seal protection, under body plastic panels etc??

Anyone done the same thing & had problems/issues etc.

Thanks in advance.

Paul J

Spec should be similiar if not the same, cyprus is RHD same as us. As for protection i should think it would be the same as the uk, afterall skoda dont know where the car might end up. Like in this case.

I think insurance on imports is more on jap performance stuff but i stand corrected if wrong

What year is the car? And Is the warranty the Skoda Approved Used Car one?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply's so far.

The car is a 2010 Yeti 1.2 TSI E spec, but with Alloys as an extra. Bought & used in Cyprus by an older couple who have since moved back to the UK. Registered in the uk this year, I have been told it will come with one years Skoda Used Car warranty, it is being sold by a main Skoda dealer.

I am going to go & look at it to check specs etc & if it all seems ok I will try to do a deal. Our Roomster has 90,000 on the clock now after buying it with 5,000 on the clock in August 2008, so it owes us nothing really, so will trade it in. Just need to make sure management is happy with it, she is the main user, then I can look for a newish Fabia Vrs ;-)

Cheers everyone for your help & happy Christmas.

Try buy some shares in an oil company before you commence a search for a 1.4tsi fabia

Worth checking the insurance.  My 1994 1.5 jap import CRX is double the insurance of my previous 1994 1.6 UK spec one.

Totally different cars, I appreciate, but I was quite surprised.  I can change it to all UK parts easily (headlamps and rear number plate panel), but it wouldn't change the insurance - apart from the fact I'd then have to declare it to be modified!

Specifications on Cypriot registered cars can vary slightly, but as it's an 'E' there won't be much to miss!

Just to let you all know, I checked the insurance via a comparison site & it was ok price wise.

So we had a ride out to look at it, the spec is an E but with Alloys, Rear Electric Windows & for some reason the heater/air vents between the seats for rear passengers. No front fog lights that was the only thing stopping it being an S spec.

I checked it had the clear plastic protection around the front of the rear wheel arches & made sure there was no blistering of the paintwork.

I also checked there was an under engine plastic tray to stop water splashing into the engine bay.

It also had a spare wheel kit which was a bonus!

So all seemed ok & the deal was right so we bought it!! :-0

Traded the 1.9 diesel Roomster 2 2007 model with nearly 90,000 miles on the clock & put in £6450 that included a swan neck towbar being fitted, both carpet & rubber floor mats, fuel, road tax & the paint & interior protection pack (I know it's pretty much a waste of time) but they threw it in! So we paid just over £9000 for a 26,000 mile 20101.2 TSI Yeti.

Thanks for all your help.

Result!

Saw that on autotrader and thought it looked good. Decent price for the rooster as well... Maybe the dealers were taking the **** when they offered 2800 for my 2006 86k Octy vRS...
