Urgent help needed

Featured Replies

Hi

I am currently on holiday in Spain with my Superb II and the horn has started sounding all on its own. No pattern to it but some days nothing then today 8 or 9 occasions single sounds, multiple peeps. I am currently en route to a Skoda dealers but without much hope as I cannot make the car do it when needed. Has anyone had a similar problem? It is not when I turn the steering in full lock or going over a bump or any particular scenario. Its Christmas so dealer availability is going to be poor.

Thanks

Kevin

I thought it was fuse F17.

It could be a bad horn relay.

CR/PD? Year?

Just realised the manual lists 2 versions of the fuse list F5 in v1, F17 in v2, just gives two layout diagrams and says you can tell which one you have by lifting the cover and checking which diagram you match.

Thanks for the replies. The car is booked in on the 30th I just hope it will misbehave for them. Will pull the fuse for now had tried to disconnect it but its a sod to reach. Went out this morning for 60 kilometres not a peep then twice on the way back, I can see this being a long running saga of nobody finding a fault and me annoying every body. It is a 2013 last of the pre facelift.

I've seen this is in a couple of cases and in both cases it was a faulty horn relay. The armature return spring in these half size relays can break.

Have just looked in fuse box under the bonnet and there is no fuse in F17 and when I pulled F5 the horn still worked!! I have no idea why unless the continental ones are wired differently. Anyway thanks for the horn relay info I will do a Google translate and see if they are open to suggestions at the garage.

This is the fuse

Thanks for that have pulled it, now I can stop annoying everyone including the local Police who were waiting at the traffic lights in front of me when the horn tried its own version of La cuckeracha (excuse the spelling)

Any time I was in SpIn I always had problems with my horn. I just put it down to all the cheap alcohol.

Tends to affect  driving as well as your spelling, not that I would drive of course but wife's driving seems more scary after the cheap wine

I have seen similar on a colleagues Octavia when the car was hot in summer. Went in a few times looking at the control module and "clock spring" from the steering wheel, but nothing found.

It eventually turned out to be a problem with the airbag in the steering wheel pushing out and operating the horn.

He also found it embarrassing with the horn randomly sounding off at unsuspecting motorists!

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Merry Christmas to all

At last, a visit to the Skoda dealer and as advised on here, a new relay fitted, the horn only sounds now when I press the button. More worryingly, the non functioning front and rear cig lighters require what seems to be most of the interior removing and it will be off the road for at least a full day and quite likely longer according to the garage.

IIRC, there are three. One in the front, one in the rear and one in the luggage area.

Do any of them work?

Does the one at the front light up when the lights are on?

Does the light in the luggage are work?

Has someone checked fuses 26 and 35 in the dash panel fuse holder?

Ok yes there are three, the two inside the car don't work the power point in the boot does work. When I looked there was no fuse in the holder but as soon as I fitted one it blew immediately as did the second and third even though neither cig lighter was depressed at the time. The garage have said it is a wiring fault although they are not yet sure what sort of fault.

Does the front one light up when you put the headlights on?

Not at all, the dealer has said there is a wiring fault which causes the fuse to blow as soon as you try to fit one, sounds about right.

The earth wire is broken, otherwise, the front socket would light up when the lights are on. It has a separate feed to the light but shares the earth.
