Falling out of Love with the Fabia.

Featured Replies

Seriously.. I've ownd the car 18 month. MOT, Service and a Battery. That's all all ive ever spent on her. Trouble free driving.

I don't live in a rough area. Just on a slip road to a main road that has a damn pub at the top.

The O/S rear door was keyed all the way along even over the door handle. Got most of it out but its still there.

I've had my N/S wing mirror glass smashed. - replaced that. Now park with my mirrors folded in.

Then a few months ago i noticed a massive crack in the O/S mirror unit cover. and the car next to mine had the mirror unit ripped off.

While cleaning before shooting my Pines / Fabia pictures i noticed the O/S mirror base was sticking out about 10mm. While the unit was folded in it looks as if someone has kicked the unit. Almost like the alloy bracket at the back of it was mis-shaped.

In an attempt to stop this i decided to start parking on the back with the parents cars. I don't park on the back due to having 3 cars and one drive which is shared. Moving cars around to get another out is just asking for trouble. My dad moved my car this morning to get his out and WHAM! kerbed my rear N/S alloy. I wouldn't mind if it was my original alloys.

Now in need of

O/S mirror unit complete in Black Magic with the base mounting.

Alloys sanding and painting.

Anyone else's car attract unwanted attention?

The mirror thing, it is not just that with time the pivot is seizing is it, my daughter used to have a 6K Ibiza, bought at just 3 years old but by that time the mirrors had seized solid - that caused someone to hit it and break the complete assembly, good job well done, so when she got garage to replace it she started it fold it in. My wife's 9N Polo 2003MY only started to get its mirrors folded in when my daughter bought her house on a bus route - see above for reason, and then discovered that they would not fold in, so I had to clean them up and lubricate them and fold them frequently to stop them seizing up.

Having a desirable car, well that brings much pleasure, but also a lot of pain, I used to have trouble leaving my VX Cav GSI 4X4 parked, same for my VW Passat 2.8 V6 4Motion - for quite a few years, now I have an Audi S4 and while it was bought not new, 2.5 years old, it is still a major consideration parking it plus I tend to keep the garage door shut when it is at home. People that are not interested in cars just don't understand this at all "it is just a car" - I tend to take my wife's 2002 9N Polo 1.4 if questions about where I want to park might be asked!!

On the other hand, when I first started work, I had an old exPO Ford Anglia van (109E ?) and some skumbag broke into it and stole my "Paddy Hopkirk Rally style" seat covers - that did not say much about the rest of the van!!

Sister-in-law moved down from Scotland to Kent 15+ years ago and wanted a new car, a Golf GTI suited her needs, but the VW garage in Canterbury suggested that if she would typically leave it parked up at a railway station for instance, then "Down South" that was not a car to buy as she would not have it for long!! That was when a really useless and nasty, thirsty and gutless brand new 6N Polo 1.6 (I think) entered her life and put her off VAG products for ever - but it was never stolen !!

Horrible world we live in where someone feels the need to ruin somebody else's property. At least it's not the car giving you the trouble, the same would happen to any car you own IMO, these hatches are pretty inconspicuous.

I'm not sure it's a case of positively attracting attention - sounds more like mindless vandalism from oxygen thieves who pass by - very likely especially if the road is a thoroughfare for people walking to/from the local watering hole/skate park/football field etc etc.

I park mine in a rough area of Bristol from time to time, but I park it in a small cul-de-sac overnight so someone would have to go out of their way to key it or boot the mirror off. Only incident I've had is returning to the car to find the mirror bent forward - fortunately within tolerance of the hinge so it just folded back. Now I also fold the mirrors in when parking anywhere.

****es me off stuff like this. Mine is parked on the drive and the gates padlocked shut and when we go in town shopping etc we take the wife's diesel fiesta.

The mirrors always pivot freely. I fold them in everywhere i park. The N/S Glass was broken while the N/S was parked kerb side. Hence no vehicle hitting it. the O/S first time around was obviously someone meaning to do it as the car down from me had their wing mirror cover completely ripped off and was under the car. The unit and glass itself was in tact.

Funny thing is. Since me and my Girl got together i've had nothing but trouble with someone / people doing things to the car. Nearly 3 years on, i dont think they would stoop that low..

Lupo Sport.  -

O/S wing mirror completely smashed off.

N/S door and rear 1/4 keyed.

The same time my car got keyed my girls beetle got keyed over the bonnet / headlight and down the N/S wing and door. also had a patch of horizontal lines over vertical on the bonnet.

Mk1 Golf GTI -

Both front Tyres let down.

9n Polo -

Never got touched in the 4 months i had it.

Fabia vRS -

N/S mirror Glass smashed.

O/S mirror cover damaged, and based bent. - Current

O/S rear door got keyed.

Makes me wonder why i bother.

Well, seeing as the only car to escape was a standard one - 9N Polo, I'd reckon my initial assumptions might not have been too far off the mark. I will not comment on "past partners"!!

I get the same issues. Mirrors have been smashed a few times now, rear bumper is all warped due to impact and there's a massive scrape on one of the rear doors. Mine's only a standard Fabia, so I don't think it's attracting undue attention. Everyone else who lives around here complains of the same thing.

All have happened in the year since I got the car. I live opposite a school, so the 'yummy mummy'/'chelsea tractor' brigade are almost certainly responsible for most of the damage. I've just had to come to terms with it and the fact that there's no point owning anything nice, or spending money/time/effort keeping it nice while I live where I do.

Robbie!!! Have you seen/tried Alloy gaters? Auto Express accessory of the year to protect/hide scuffs on your wheels, cool if you choose colors to go with or contrast with your Fabia's color.

This is the age of surveillance. I don't have such problems but the moment I would, then I would be putting up in the house motion sensitive or permanent monitoring cameras or car mounted.

Also, then the adage of "what comes around goes around" would certainly come home to roost.

Who or whatever is involved probably isn't isolated (i.e. they only parked there once etc). Its almost certainly likely that if someone did this out of spite, they would continue to do it, or if it was a motoring incident, due to bad parking etc, they will probably badly park again and around the same area.

I'd wait until they parked again following the evidence and then earn some well deserved revenge, they'd be left far worse off than me I can promise you !

It just puts me in a mood of "why do i bother" And then i lack motivation on plans for the car.

I can't work out weather its the same person or just random acts of vandalism. I must admit other cars on the street also go through the same things.

Back when i had my first car a 6n Polo. It was parked outside my next door neighbors house. With a car parked up from it. someone ran up over my bonnet across the roof and jumped onto the next cars along roof.. caved the roof in.

I make it sound like i live in a bad area and i don't. It's just the fact the street is widely used by alot of people.

CCTV or action cam in the front of the house?

CCTV or action cam in the front of the house?

Looks like  that's the way i'll be going.

the front spare room looks out onto the car so i could no doubt put something there.

CCTV or action cam in the front of the house?

That'd be no good for my situation, as I can rarely guarantee where I'll have to park as it's such a busy area for parking. I believe you can set the cameras up in the car and they'll activate on their own, but I'd think that will cost a lot of money... money I don't have.  :(

Jesus, I use to live on a road connecting two streets of pubs, one at either end, was loud and loads of noise at the weekends, traffic cones thrown about and all sorts but never anyones car was touched. Feel for you! Certainly be worth sticking a camera up

That's me lol, you near white gates pub

TBH it doesnt matter where you live or what you own the a*******s will still damage it wether its outside a pub, in the street or carpark etc etc. The reason i bought a cheap fabia was to use as a second car so if it gets damaged its no big deal but its still annoying.
