Rear weights removed on VRS

Featured Replies

LOL, they do not have safe steering characteristics,  just so so ones.

Change of Tyre Pressures and Tyre Types make more difference than if the weights are on or not.

If they were trying to stop the car going off the road, they might of fitted better tyres.

Still not heard of any yet with weights removed that have gone off the road,

Does anyone know of any?

Maybe just fitted the Tyres that are on the Cupra, GTi & A1 185ps, 215/40 R 17. Instead of the 205/40 R 17 on the vRS.

Maybe Skoda could send more cars to the UK that do not Pull to the Left and take 3 or 4 attempts at Alignement checks and adjustments before they give in and fit new tyres.

MAYBE SOME vRS OWNERS WITH A CAR PULLING LEFT BADLY SHOULD CHECK IT LEFT THE FACTORY WITH WEIGHTS FITTED.

But then what about all these Monte Carlos badly or wrongly built, or with tyres fitted without having the correct run out.

How much do we think these weights cost to design, test, Manufacture?

Remember they are 25KG, nicely finished, not like some other cr4p, rusting within months parts that are fitted to many Skoda Models.

Not just a couple of Quid, that is for sure.

You genuinely think 25kg makes 0-62 1 second slower?!

As a side note, Audi did very similar with the TT when they all got recalled for spinning out on autobahns. They fitted the rear spoiler, ESP and a ~25kg ballast weight behind the crash bar on the near side rear of the car! Maybe it's because the vrs is massively tall and gets a bit wobbly in the wind lol..

Different driving conditions, different driver preferences and abilities mean that cars can be set up in different ways and still be ok.

The incidents with early TTs in Germany led to not only the changes you state but also to front suspension mods, mainly the introduction of softer buses which reduced steering response, all to make for greater high speed stability.

Sadly the effect was that keen drivers in the UK,who wanted sharp B road handling and for whom 120 mph cruising had no relevance, found no joy in the way the TT now drove.

When i had a TT I was less than happy with its dumb steering and reverted to a mod so the the original harder bushes could be fitted which improved matters a bit.

As for the vRS,if Skoda thought the car was unstable without these weights added then IMO a better solution would have been to have simply fitted the EIbach springs as standard.

George, would it not be funny,in an ironic sort of way,if the real reason for the pull to the left is the fitting of these weights !!!

Yes I do agree there of course.

I had omitted the wishbone design change but was quite aware of it they actually increased the bush size...

I have a pair of these sat upstairs awaiting fitting

Returning to the original smaller bushing size :)

Exactly, that's what I did.TBH although there was some improvement the steering still felt woolly.

The next thing I was going to look at was a Whiteline kit that gives more castor angle, but I sold the car.

However,we digress here from vRS matters...
