2.0TDI CR140 Remap!

Featured Replies

Hello, just wanting to ask if any of you have remapped your TDI CR140 at shark performance? I'm wanting to do it soon, I know it gives 180hp and way over 400nm but just wanting to make sure. So if anyone's done it before, how is it? what's the MPG like and is it a lot snappier than standard???

Thanks :)!!!!

Not Shark, but similar results out of my CFFB 2.0 CR 140. Ended up with 186hp / 405nm.

I don't think you can describe the Superb as a "snappy" car....It does however got alot more poke now, especially when you want to overtake and instead of dropping down a gear it just pulls.

Fuel consumption went down 0.2-0.5L/100km (5.7 => 5.5/5.2). Not as dramatic as my previous Octavia II when chipped, but still noticable.

Here's my readout.

Shark are one of the site sponsors and offer a discount for freedom members and have a good reputation. You could give Ben at shark a call as he's very helpful and will be able to advise on what figures you can expect to get.

Not a 140. but the 170 is sooooo much nicer to drive after Ben has done his magic ..... you will not be dissapointed.

MPG is up slightly, the power delivery is smooth and not snappy at all, but it pulls much better.

Martin I think we have discussed this before on the Audrey thread.

Now that I am keeping Audrey - wondering how much at shark for a remap?

Though I have a warranty to expire 1st before I do.

Sorry to hijack thread, Slimbacon.

IIRC the Shark map was £499 (minus the 10% Freedom discount)

But it might be best to contact Ben directly to confirm this.

It's okay, Chan110 :D. I would have to ring up JCT600 in Sheff and ask about the warranty first as I have almost 3 years of it left and I don't really want to wait. :giggle:

Cheers mate!

I also have one year Skoda extended warranty left.

Was worry about affecting the warranty (remap).

Some say u can find switch-able remap fob now?

Switch between factory setting and remap?

But not sure now that newer ECU are sealed or something?

Think read this on the REVO site...

Hmmm that sounds quite interesting, I'd want to change it back to its original setting when I'm going to be selling it anyway and the switchable remap sounds impressive. Research time ;)

Me me me too!

But I don't know enough about it.

Am sure someone on here will explain if do-able ...

Hello peeps. I've already done some leg work on this which may be of help. If you have the same type of encrypted ecu that I have in my Blackline its very unlikely that they will be able to remap your cr without the mapper having to open up the ecu to 'enable' it. That will be evident to any Skoda tech that subsequently has cause to work on your ecu. When I asked it wasn't possible to use the hand held shark unit that allows you to switch between factory and remap so the only option available from them was a 'normal' remap. Superchips do a bluefin unit that they said you can use with the encrypted cr ecu, but again the ecu needs to be 'enabled' by them first at either their hq or one of their agants before the bluefin will work. If you want something you can switch yourself without trace the only option I'm aware of is via a tuning box. There are a couple of sponsors on the site that do these, dtuk being one of them, so that's a possibility you may wish to consider.

Cheers

Ade

Thanks to Ade to the rescue again!

One thing to bear in mind though lads is not ALL remaps are the same!

Unless the remap can be linked to the warranty claim (for example clutch going) they cannot refuse to cover the claim, I would imagine however the onus would be on the owner to prove the remap did not cause the item to fail, so engine and transmission claims you would need to fight your corner.

Tuning boxes have their place in the market, but from my experience whilst they will improve the car they are not as good as a decent remap.

Everyone has their own favorite when it comes to remaps, but one thing to consider is customer service (if / when things don’t go 100% right) this is the reason (along with their excellent product) I travelled the 4hrs to Shark.

Gents,

If you get your car re-mapped, are you supposed to inform your insurance co, and if so, does anyone know how much it increases the premium by?

I gave some thought to doing this last year. My insurance company LV did not ant to know and advised they would not insure me.

Aviva would insure me but the price was double what I was paying LV.

Adian Flux quoted me £1000. I am in my 60's with zero penalty points on my licence.

Clearly there are lots of factors to consider and I am guessing they were a bit concerned about about a grandad hareing about in "soooped" skoda  :giggle:

Yes, you absolutely have to inform your insurer, otherwise in the event of an accident they will not cover you, so you in effect are driving around illegally without valid insurance cover.

You also can expect to lose warranty on anything on the car that Skoda deem can be affected by the remap, and I promise you if they use their imagination this will cover a lot of the car.

Lastly it is a pet peev of mine to see people referencing tuning boxes and switchable maps as a way to beat the system and con dealers into thinking that your car is still stock for warranty purposes. that is not what these things were designed for.  Most of these things will leave an ECU trace which when spotted may well land you with a bill for the warranty work, will certainly have your car logged on the Skoda computer systems as being modified and you are in effect committing fraud (whether you can justify it in your own mind or not)

Interesting stuff, Sparky!

Esp about the traces.

A bit concerned now if what happens if my car was chip/map once by previous owner,

and i know nothing about it - and i paid for a Skoda extended warranty,

and told insurer it is not modified.

Where do i stand when it comes to a accident claim / warranty work

And thy detected chipping/map traces?!!! Eeeeek!

I imagine the insurer would take the standpoint that it is your responsibility to verify these things, not a helpful stance at all but I would bet that's what they would say.

If the car was bought from a Skoda dealer then I would expect them to have flashed the ECU back to stock.  If it was sold to you by an independant as a stock car I guess you would have to take it up with them.  Prviate sale, who knows, it's a minefield.

It's more than likely there is nothing to worry about but these things are easily checked.  I'm sure a Car of Audrey's high reputation and community standing won't have been 'interfered' with :)

You see lots of cars out on independant garage forecourts that have blatantly been lowered or have aftermarket wheels on of different size to stock.  I doubt these garages advertise the cars as modified if they even now or care and same for the buyers.  But if stick comes to lift I'd have my money on the insurance loss adjuster types doing everything they can to get out of a claim.

Cheers Sparkly!

Always a mine field whn buying used!

Bought a summer car once,

insurer on classic as un-modified - i didnt know what the stock car was!

Then afters had to declared

BIGGER wheels

Upgraded stereo

But luckily no increased in premium! :-)

God knows if the engine bay was stock!!!!

and some feedback from a member who fitted a kit to his 2.0 tdi 140ps oCTAVIA Scout

Hi Andrew,

Box ordered on Thursday, arrived on Friday so thanks for the prompt service. I had the box fitted to my Scout yesterday and have left it on the map as supplied. I think it is Map 2 + 1 from peeking through the window. Anyway the difference is quite impressive on this conservative setting. The power delivery is much smoother through all the gears but 3rd seems much more useful now especially. The car even sounds a bit more gutsy, from the inside anyway.

Obviously I have a lot of playing around to do with the maps and I know there is some trial and error involved but I would like to have some understanding of what I'm doing. I was wondering therefore if, when you have time, you could explain the settings in a little more detail?

I've been trying to decipher the graphs that came in the box. What do the red and yellow lines represent? Clearly the X axis is in volts so does this extrapolate to level of modification of the signal and hence to potential power/torque delivery?

Do the maps literally translate to 1-4, to potentially 10-40%? What do the trims within each map actually do?

I know how busy you must be Andrew so thanks in advance for your time.

Best regards,

Mr B

Interestingly I've just done some quotes using gocompare for my incoming Yeti. (48, zero points, 10 years NCB, Gloucestershire, 250 excess)

Cheapest for the 2013 110CR 2WD SE Plus - LV, £148.50.

Hi Gyp

Very good price, must try go compare.

I know the value of the insurance premiums will change according to location. I think Manchester is an expensive place to own a car.

L.V. £356 for 2.5 TDI. Would be interested to know what you would be charged for 2.5.

Don't you all drive tractors in Gloucestershire
