  • We are not that keen on the Yeti. It was either going to be a Octavia Estate or a SUV, Kia Sportage or something similar.

  • There are five approved used Octy III 4x4 that are currently being advertised, three 1.6 and two 2ltrs, if your also considering a used car option.   See post 3;   http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t

  • Thanks I've actually seen a few Scouts that fit the bill so will have a look at them tomorrow.

We were actually going to have a blue vehicle to differentiate us from the trust RRVs which are Silver.

I know that both Ambulance and Police (dog section) rate the scouts. They are fantastic for the job - Police are slowly introducing the Yeti in 170bhp and these are also highly thought of...would this not be a possibility for you? Seen a couple of Doctors ones marked up around Cambridgeshire.

Aware of this thanks. As the vehicle was coming in to us on a special deal it was cheaper through the dealer than through the emergency fleet scheme.

This is incorrect, the West Midlands Amb RRV specification for the next few years makes specific mention that Scouts are currently unavailable. Only Honda CRV's are currently being purchased, oh and a batch of X5's are about to go live for support officers.

Have you actually spoken to Skoda UK to confirm?

It was discussed on here in a thread only a month or so ago that the cars aren't in the UK but stored at port and available (in RHD) for special order only.

By the sounds of it, he seems reluctant to go directly through SUK, but prefers to use a dealer. I suppose it depends how many vehicles you are after.

If only one vehicle perhaps it is cheaper to go via dealers. Only problem is you wont have access to SUKs reserved fleet of Scouts.

Was in a dealer today there isn't one 4x4 available anywhere in the country new as stock.

I've been looking at some Scouts today on nearly new and may opt for one of these.

Regard lead time for a new order 4x4, I've just asked SUK for an update on mine; dealer being a bit slow on comms and they say confirmed week 3 mid Jan. So by the time it lands at the dealers your looking at around 17 weeks currently based on my experience.

I spoke to Verity Hall approx two months ago she works in Emergency Fleet sales for SUK, no scouts were available to purchase.

As I said before the WMAS specification 2013 - 2016 actually states "The Skoda Scout is currently unavailable, and therefore the trust will utilise the new generation Honda CRV (2013) as it's base RRV until the new Skoda becomes available for Assesment or alternative models present."

So I have to query whether this Scout stock actually exists...

My apologies. Was just going by what others said

Not a problem at all. Thanks

They had the last batch of estates built as Scouts purely for emergency services, but all were sold early 2013. I nearly bought 4, but the demand from others was for Qashqai 4x4, due to the cost.

Now if this had been thought about by Skoda, there wouldnt be such a gap between models. The new scout get designed, and pre production models built whilst the old Scout is still in production. Then they swap straight over from old to new model. Certainly when your models seem popular with emergency services (which must be a fairly good customer), its got to be wise to ensure you always have the models in production.

To be fair, there seem to be delays in getting orders built. Most people waiting quite a while. Are Skoda in need of another factory?

In talks with Skoda UK emergency services team they noted how few Scouts were sold across Europe, thus the new model was low in the priority list.

Does it have to be a new one? I know reputable Skoda specialist in Shropshire who could probably source a good used one.

I've managed to secure a 2013 plate Scout with 11,500 miles on clock for a very good price.  Now looking at conversion, so any hints/tips for staff would be great.

I have a mate who is a senior paramedic and an experienced car mechanic. If he can provide any useful informtion, I will pass it on.

Chap next door to us I believe still works for a firm that modifies emergency service vehicles and I'm sure he's fitted out Scouts.

Can ask him for details if of help.

Any help greatly appreciated. Is the steering wheel on the scout Multi Function? ie Do we get the buttons on the steering wheel?

Also are there any differences between the 2011 and 2013 Scout?

Just a couple of things mate if it helps.

If the company you use fit one of the led dash strobes make sure it is completely sealed against the windscreen, I've found these lights to be really effective but can get quite distracting flash back on the windscreen if there's gaps.

Secondly - if funds allow consider in car video camera or a UDS system (a black box) that records data in the event of an accident...speed, rpm, which lights were on etc....really can save your bacon if there's a collision and allegations are made.

We won't be having a dash strobe and looking at data logging and video options at the moment. As only trained crew can use blues. Think this is through VUE.

Thanks for the hints!

Our new vehicle, just finalising the conversion spec and should be on the road in approx one month.

Congratulations mate! I do like the scouts.

Who's doing the conversion? SVO?

Post up some pics when it's done :-)
