Faulty Tailgate lock and Rear Wiper - Help Please

Featured Replies

Hi,  I hope someone can help me with this issue.  I have a 57 plate Octavia Scout and is has recently developed a fault.  The tailgate release mechanism fails to operate when using the release button or the key fob.  In addition the dash panel shows that the tailgate is open when it is in fact locked shut.  Thus the alarm fails to 'beep' when activating it.

Further to the above fault, the rear wiper stopped working at the same time.  Is there a common controller for the both wiper and lock?   Any advise you can give on locating the fault will be appreciated - it is starting to drive me nuts!!

Thanks

Did the rear washer work OK before the problems started?

The rear wiper will not work if the dash shows that the tailgate is not shut. Sorting out the lock will cure the wiper "fault".

Worth checking the wiring where it enters the tailgate up near the hinge. I'm not overly familiar with the wiring setup, but if there is a common negative wire in there that has broken, then this could cause the faults you are experiencing.

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies. The rear wash / wipe worked fine until the fault occurred. I'll sort out the lock first and hopefully this will cure the wiper issue as stated by Sheriff. I'll pull the car apart tomorrow when it should be sunny and not pouring with rain!!
