Keechy's Lego Technic Racer Build

Not sure if this is something people would want or like to see but here it is anyway ;)

Had this for Christmas and made a start on it today.

This is how it looks after today's efforts.

Progress should be slow and steady as I only get chance once in a while to have a go at it.

I used to pine over the Technic catalogues as a kid, had a few model sets for Christmas or birthday over the years, but my parents could never stretch to flagship models like the Test Cars (the earlier red 8865 and the later black one). Noticed them going on eBay, some for silly money, but some for £20-£30. Sorely tempted to re-live a bit of my childhood, but the wife is shaking her head!

Little more progress to add in here. Some more work to the chassis and then onto the rear running gear and engine. For some reason the pistons aren't working ATM so I need to dismantle it and see what I have moves whilst connecting the engine to the chassis. But here is how I left it after today;

More progress to come in the week hopefully.

If you've got that far with the rear engine and diff then the engine should be fully working - so perhaps you've missed a critical step out?

The hinged yellow "L" will ultimately either raise the engine cover or the adjust the rear wing so don't worry about that at the minute.

I finished this over Christmas:

Have just started this which I swapped my F1 car for:

I will probably dismantle the engine from the chasis either tonight or tomorrow and see what i have done, it was working fine until Iattached it so not sure where i have gone wrong. Some nice lego models there. Once I have finished this I may look into another. I fancy the camper van tbh.

Brilliant build thread Keechy.... don't forget the Briskoda sticker so it can get "spotted".

It would be great I could get a tiny briskoda.net URL sticker on there somewhere.

I had chance to remove the engine from the chasis today and have got it all working fine now. Cam shaft just got stuck so now all back together and working like it should.

Had chance to make a start on the front too. Didn't spend too long on it tonight but here is where I left it.

I think I will have to treat myself to one of these. My lads has got a couple of smaller models (he's only 6) and he loves them to bits, he's eyeing up the big £150 crane for his birthday.

Keep up the good work

This might sound a daft question, but do the instruction have the proper names of the bits you are building? eg Crown wheels and Universal joints etc. That way the younger people building stuff, can look up what the parts are in other vehicles.

A little bit more work done to this again last night, only spent another 30-45 mins on it again as i only get time late at night to have a bash at it. Finished assembling the front suspension set up and connected it to the chasis. I must say its taking shape nicely now. I found out thou that I have one long red piece missing so I ordered one last night and it will be with me sometime next week so no updates im afraid until then.

But here is where i have left it today;

Will have another look for the peice again tonight but I cant see me losing it as its the biggest piece in the set.

Next step is to finish the front wing then move onto the engine cover and rear wing.

I have been working down at Alley Palley and next door in the Great Hall they had a Model Engineering exhibition. Blimey, we pooped in (well sneaked in for free) to have a look and a lot of it looked like proper heavy engineering :D They had an ace Lego Train set, with cute little Lego people on board, as well as all the usual steam stuff :)

You're not like me than! I got a black Lego car and spent 11 and a half hours on it in 1 go, finished it in a day, then the next day took part of it to bits to convert it to right hand drive from left hand drive because it didn't look right for England.

Got one of these Fezzas too: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=47329

Also converted to right hand drive and modified the front end with gearbox out of front of engine to change height and speed of output shaft from front of engine, mountings and radiator fan.

Really need to finish this. Have gotten a little sidetracked lately. Just been sitting ontop of my wardrobe. I will have to pull it down and have a go tonight I think. Not long and it will be finished.
