Fabia vRS. Top side oil change ok?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've seen a video on the net of a fluid pump used to change the oil (pela 6000).

I've been reeding up on it and the only problem that people have is if the car has a oil baffle.

I have the recommended services done at the garage but want to go on a long driving holiday about 2/3 of the way between services. Thought I would do a quick service myself but can't get under the car well recently.

Can't seem to find anything about the fabia's (mines a 06 model).

Anyone know if it would work?

we use one similar at work and they are ok but the suction end is quite thin and it doesnt remove any sludge / sediment in the sump .... it is always better to remove the bung to let the sludge, metal particles etc all drain out with the oil

If it's just an oil change in between services it will be fine.

Used a pela 6000 for years and it's great . It will remove the full 4.5 litres of oil and for a check I occasionally remove the sump plug to see if it's missed any thing and it doesn't. It also sucks the filter housing dry of oil which a sump drop won't.

Winner !

That actually sounds like a questionable idea. You're basically un-priming the oil pump if you let the suction carry on that long, aren't you?

You pour fresh oil back down there before you fit the new filter, right?

When you change your oil. You change your filter anyways. .. no volume of oil is left in there ....

erm just a thought . Service it before you go away ;) by the time you pay for the pump it will cover the cost of an oil change

depends what engine you have tho, the pela will not do the 1.4 16v or 1.2 petrol engine's, I usually give the diesels a run for a couple of miles then drop the filter and suck the oil out, suck it from the oil cooler too thru the filter housing and pour some fresh straight in there and stick the filter in so it is almost fully primed before starting

There's a fair amount left in the filter housing and oil cooler on a vRS. Not sure how much, but it's more than "a drop". I used to do what the guy above does, suck the old stuff out then put a bit of fresh back into the housing before I filled the engine and turned it over for a few seconds.
