Front parking sensors

Featured Replies

I have an Elegance, which has the Reversing Sensors only. I ordered the car before the front assist was available. I intend to install a set of Aftermarket front parking sensors. Is it possible to get the switch for the front assist, that goes in front of the gearlever?, as I need to install a switch of some description to switch them on and off.

I would have thought (without researching it) that it would be available either from Skoda (spares department) or eBay/google.

Can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to get it.

It's something I'm also considering, but not started looking into to it yet.

What switch for front assist? You switch front assist on/ off on the Amundsen.

Or are you on about the button for the front sensor?

Its not really though is it, he's asking for the button for front assist which doesn't exist..... We can only assume he want the park assist button.....

it is very simple for those who have more than half a brain cell.

Rather than getting a bit bitchy here I suggest that people re-read the OP before adding a reply in to ensure that they understand what is being asked.

:wonder:

Oh why thankyou Mr Rover. I love you to. Ever so kind of you to post such kind remarks.

I was checking he knew what buttons he was after. It turns out he did. So all is fine.

However was it obvious? Id say not, because i guessed at front sensor (considering that is what he wants to fit), and Neil guessed at park assist.

Anyway, all is well. The OP knows what he is after. Over to those that can help!!

Now, i know almost all front parking sensors, factory fit and aftermarket, have a switch to turn them off, but is it really necessary to turn it off manually? Connect it to ignition live, so its only on when ignition is on, and you'll be fine. If your sat in traffic, as long as you keep a safe distance between yourself and the car in front, you still shouldnt need to turn it off. Saves you buying a button, makes wiring easier.

Im open to suggestions why there should be a switch though

Sounds very sensible to me. Seen that done before and it worked well.

Can I ask the OP why you are going down the route of aftermarket sensors? Have you investigated having the factor sensors installed? This would also give you the parking sensor display and the head unit.

I fitted factory front and rear sensors to my mkII(search the forum for retrofitting OPS), fitting front sensors to a car equipped with rear already would only involve fitting the front sensors and connecting them to the parking control unit and possibly coding the car to enable them.

The below kit is for front and rear but I'm sure they would sell you just a kit for the front or you could source the parts from Skoda direct.

Why not use a timed relay? Uou can then use the standard fit switch and the sensors will only stay powered up for the allotted time.

Cant say ive looked into it, but i believe you can only get the front sensors on the mk3 when you order the parking assistant gubbins (parks itself). At least when i was ordering, getting just the front sensors wasnt an option. It would be nice to have the display and everything, but at around 450.00, unless you are wanting the parking assistant, its a bit excessive when some aftermarket sensors can be maybe 20.00 ish

Thanks guys. the £450 option is a no go. When I ordered the car, front parking assistant wasn't available. I didn't think about just connecting them to ignition, without a switch. That will probably be the way to go, unless I find a switch at the right price. Don't want a Halfords switch though, it needs to look right.

Had a thought, only shooting from the hip here so may be a mile off!

Is it possible to buy another set of rear sensors and install them on the front (some cable management would be required)? If so will the display recognise that the new sensors are at the front when they are activated?

Dealer told me he can fit front sensors but they won't show on display only tone

What sort of price did he/she quote for the sensors?

It was 200£ but as I've been waiting so long he said they would do it for 100£ they will put a switch in to turn on or off they showed me one in the showroom they had already done looked no diff )

Great thanks, I feel a wee call to te dealers coming up :)
