So I can confirm cg motorsports clutchs are very good with a customer service to match, I bought a smf and dual clutch from them when they had the offer and have just finished running it in ( got fitted mid December) the clutch has been perfect no noises nothing runs like a dream :) you can here the chatter on idle but I quite like that if I'm honest, just gotta have the map tweaked again, but yeah to anyone with doubts about cg clutchs they're absolutely fine with good customer service just talk to andy he'll tell you everything you need to know :)

Paul

Now this has really confused me, so many different reviews about them

Most being good and a few (we shal not name) being horrific. My clutch is having a really hard time with the new map on it now and tbh I really don't have the £1k+ for a helix clutch fitted lol, might have to look into these again thanks Paul

I couldn't warrant 1k for a clutch tbh I know they're good but I got my clutch for £450 delivered and I'm not complaining, I would highly recommend them very good value for money :)

To be fair I think most of the problems reported here have been about the fitting service rather than the actual supply of the product itself.

It only takes one bad mechanic...

That's true but one was about making weird noises and just being a poor product

Which one did you actually buy Paul?

I know it's not a Fabia, but I've got one on my 330d (the '+30%' one). It's been on less than 100 miles, so I'm still bedding it in, but it seems fine so far. Longevity is what I'm 'worried' about most.

What I don't know, is does each type of clutch have different material? I.e., 30% increase in torque in a Fabia isn't going to be the same as a 30% increase on a 330d, but do they use the same friction material? If so, is the Fabia over engineered, or the 330d one under. . .

Other query is from this:

  • The stage 2 offers up to an 30% increase torque capacity over your stock clutch,
  • Allows an increase in stock torque up to 30%.

One implies it would give 390lb/ft on a Fabia (30% increase on stock clutch), whereas the second line suggests 296 lb/ft (30% in stock power), which is the same as a standard clutch. . .

Questions, questions.

Still, as long as mine holds out I'm happy to be ignorant!

I think we thrashed this one through and decided that it probably hadn't been fitted correctly given the number of problems the customer had which were related to the sloppy fitment.

No, the material is the same, it's the total friction surface area and pressure plate clamping force which gives you a different rating, so a physically larger clutch with a beefier pressure plate will have a higher rating even with the same friction material.

When you are limited in surface area a multiplate clutch with even stronger clamping will give the highest possible rating, this called a lock-up clutch and is what drag racers use.

Right, thanks, makes sense.

So why is a paddle clutch better? More pressure due to smaller surface area?

My queries on their ratings still stand mind you!

Yes, but the modulation sucks so they are very 'grabby'.

I'd take the ratings with a pinch of salt if I were you, I'm willing to bet no mathematics or testing was done to produce those figures!

Im running the same clutch tom, had no problems with mine. . . (Dual friction and smf)

They have quite obviously had a kick up the ass since they posted their thread and were shown up for who they really are when a customer has a problem and was totally honest with them. I think I was being very fair and keeping it personal until they posted this thread:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/291262-cg-motorsport-smf-clutch-kits/

Again anyone thinking of getting one please have a good long read.  I am still hoping to do some more tests on it and even get another car to do it on to compare also.

Don't worry Tom, I don't mind you naming me    You also were not very polite or well mannered in the above thread neither?

Supply was spot on, took them a bit to send but nothing too bad, its all in the thread.  What is bad from them is the fact they posted in public slating a customer who had problems and all they wanted to do was brush it under the carpet and move on as simply as pos and hope I sold the kit on for someone else to worry about it meaning it was then nothing to do with them so no further come back.

unfortunately for them I am not like that and would not sell an item on knowing it was not right in the first amongst other things.

Yup it was, to come on here and be bad mouthed by other member who don't have a clue is not what I would expect neither, none of the members gobbing off about it ever saw my car, unfortunately the ones who did cant comment due to certain circumstances and I appreciate that but unfortunately it leaves me all alone.

When their product was installed and run I can only report how it was then and after fitting the NEW OEM setup. Unlike the rest of the members commenting I can compare Old std kit, CG SMF and DF kit and a NEW OEM Sachs DMF and clutch all in the space of 12 months.

I think we thrashed this one through and decided that it probably hadn't been fitted correctly given the number of problems the customer had which were related to the sloppy fitment.

I love the "decided that it probably hadn't been fitted correctly given the number of problems the customer had which were related to the sloppy fitment." comment when you were not there watching, you don't use the Garage I do, and you never saw or heard my car.  When it was removed there was nothing to show it was fitted wrong. it had been on a few months and done a few K so something would of shown surely? excessive plate wear cant be caused by this, specially when its inn gear on the M4 for 85-90% of the time, the rest is in 3rd  gear with very few changes so the use of the clutch is minimal really.

All Ill say again is use them if you want, This is proof of what I said in their thread, they have certainly cleaned up their act which is even more proof to me they know they "f****d up" by posting the thread and not letting me take time out to go up to them for refitting and testing.

Have a read of the thread, all PM's are posted too as Ive nothing to hide.  All I can do is warn future customers of what they can be like.

Edit:  Sorry to hijack the thread too

Ibtl!

Whoa there fella!

Now, my comments posted in this thread refer ONLY to the recent problems experienced by another member who had a different kit fitted than you did, and his problems were related to sloppy fitment at CG including a broken alternator load sensor wire, see here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/297555-cg-motorsports-dual-friction-clutch-dmf-review/

I have no knowledge of the problems you've had but I'll try and take the time to read through your thread using the link you've provided and may decide to comment if I have anything useful to contribute.

Remember, it isn't always all about you.
